Throwing myself out of bed with more of a jump this time around, I quickly got prepared for my day. It was two days after the "low power" incident and nothing interesting had happened since. The day was nothing special and was going by smoothly. Today we were researching a "Catte" which was just an orange cat-like gootraxian with an orange bucket on its head.
'Pretty cool stuff so far,' I thought as I wrote down some random observations about the gootraxian. I was brought out of my thoughts as a slight stinging feeling started happening in my left arm. I clutched my arm a bit, which Liam noticed.
"You good man?" I nodded and shrugged it off.
'Probably just some cramp,' I hoped. Continuing to work for another couple of minutes, only for the pain to flare up and cause me to stumble a bit. Quietly cursing and excusing myself from the room, I ran while clutching my arm in pain to the nearest place I felt no one would be; which ended up being a random storage room.
Navigating in the dark, I made it into the back of the room before slipping on a flashlight, causing me to fall and for the flashlight to turn on and reveal a sleeping pup. Getting onto my knees, I continued to clutch my arm in pain. My noisy entrance and distress woke the pup, who saw me, went wide-eyed, and ran off.
Ignoring the pup leaving, I scrambled for the light and pointed it at my still-bandaged arm. Attempting to take off the bandages was difficult due to how they were still somehow tight, and I was beyond freaking out. Seeing something sharp in the room, I jumped and grabbed it, using it carefully to remove the bandages. Cutting them loose and pulling them off, I was shocked to see how the bruise was spreading and had made its way up my shoulder and now covered my hand; some parts had turned purple and fur was growing on them. My fingernails had also begun to glow a slight pinkish-purple and I began to hyperventilate in response to the sight. My vision began to blur and my mind began to numb.
My panic was interrupted by the pup, who had run back into the room with loud footsteps following behind them. They emerged from the darkness and pinned me down, shortly after I felt a pinch on my left arm. Immediate relief came as whatever was in that stuff caused the pain to die down and my vision to clear up. After a few moments of trying to compose myself, and wiping away tears, I looked up to see the one and only Dr. F standing near me with his usual smile.
"Heya there... bud," he said while scratching the back of his head. I looked at him gratefully for a moment before switching to anger.
"YOU SAID IT WAS JUST A BRUISE," I yelled, causing him to quickly put a gloved hand over my mouth to be quiet. Waiting for me to calm down a bit before speaking.
"Sorry pal. I did think it was just a bruise. I mean, that was until I checked your blood. I meant to tell you but I got sidetracked and sorta forgot."
I didn't respond and only glared at him.
"Did you ever check the wound to make sure it was healing all right?"
This caused me to pause realizing I never once did that in the couple of days I wore the bandages, but I am still very much unhappy. "Listen listen, I see that you are still upset, but look on the bright side. Uhhh, at least you got a cool arm and some claws now!"
Looking down at what he just mentioned, I noticed that the bruise was still there and that it was still glowing a bit. I began to panic at the sight.
"No no no, you gotta undo this, please," I begged.
"Well I got bad news, I dunno how."
"But what about the stuff you just used?"
"This stuff only slows it down and reduces the pain, there is no stopping the process. Plus, this stuff is essentially just a really, really strong painkiller. Heh, I am shocked you are even still awake after I injected you with this stuff!" I hung my head in defeat as he continued, "I rushed here as fast as I could when I heard about what was happening."
