'So, not-so-great news, I haven't seen Dr. F in two days. On a side note though, Sprinkles is actually pretty nice. They have been managing the cafeteria for a few days now and have become pretty liked among most of the other researchers. Though it sucks that they can't talk and only make sounds that nobody can understand. I hope that in the future there will be a way to maybe understand them. But they do like high fives I learned from other researchers, but I am still too hesitant to try giving them one. But anyways...'
Right now I am finishing up with researching a protogen. They are pretty cool and are like cyborg goos, plus they apparently explode.
"Hey you, are you Matthew?" A random scientist approached me while I was putting away my clipboard.
"Yeah, that would be me."
"Could you do us a favor and go grab us some of this stuff from the storage room?" He said while handing me a clipboard with a list of science stuff on it.
"Why not have someone else do it?"
"Because you are closer to the door, now go. Feel free to take someone with you."
Sighing a little, I called Liam over to help and we began heading down to the storage area. Which was pretty far away from the research area.
"Soooo, how are you doing today?" Liam asked with a smile.
"You know, pretty good actually," I said before continuing in a joking tone. "Still recovering from our near heart attacks from a few days ago?"
"Haha, yep. Still wish he didn't do that, especially so soon after the whole 'incident' with the Carneline."
I cringed a bit, "I doubt he knew about that and was probably just joking, right?"
"Hopefully. Hey look, we're here!" Liam exclaimed, causing me to look at where he was pointing, which looked like a room containing a vast void of nothingness within.
"Looks like pure darkness in there, is there a flashlight anywhere?"
"Yep, right here," Liam reached for an emergency flashlight.
"I'd consider my fear of darkness an emergency, let's go in?" I said while playfully shoving Liam in.
He quickly recovered with a chuckle, "Real funny, now let's see that list." Hearing this I showed him the list while we walked in. Only for the sound of the lab to disappear, making us realize that all of the stuff in here somehow made this room soundproof. Which got even more evident when the door closed and it seemed that the entire world had gone quiet.
"Dang, I can't hear anything in here, let's hurry this up," I said, causing Liam to shine the flashlight around the room in search of the things on the list.
After collecting everything we needed and loading it into a conveniently placed cart, we left the room. Only to see that everything looked a shade of... red?
"Hey, where'd everyone go? And why is everything so red." Liam asked, to which I shrugged in response.
"I dunno," I responded while walking over to a screen and reading it. "'Disturbance in the power grid detected, low power outage mode active'... Uh oh."
Liam then pushed the cart back into the storage room and closed the door, "We will get that stuff later, c'mon, let's get outta here." Grabbing my wrist, he began walking us down the hallway, only for me to stop and look into the cave filled with beautiful crystals. I suddenly stopped walking and stared into the cave, feeling a sense of longing.
"Wait man, let's go check out the caves, this could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," I quietly said while my curiosity ebbed me forward.
"But that area is off limits for us, plus we don't even have the safety equipment for it."
