A/N: All night, I kept thinking of a story. It kept repeating in my head so here it is.

She stared at the water like it were the barrel of a gun. Fear glazed her eyes, her body shook. Her reflection across the glistening water stared back at her, reciprocating her anxiety.

She gripped at her sides, practically clawing at the bathing suit.

Images of drowning played through her head. She felt uneasy, was it just her or was the pool spinning?

Somehow she mustered the courage to dip her toe in, but she felt tiny pinpricks grabbing at her, wanting to pull her in.

She shoved the screams down and instead gulped. Losing control of her fingers, they start to jitter on their own.

She sat at the edge and commanded herself to place her leg in. She breathed deeply, dipped slowly, and tried to stomp out the fear like ants.

I can do this, she told herself. For a fleeting moment, she felt calm...

Until she felt a foot hit her back and the water swallowed her whole.

The amount of fear she felt did not compare to anything known to man. Her heart raced, and her desperation for air made her lightheaded. Her eyes opened for a few seconds at a time, each time she saw the shining, blue surface. She flailed her arms in an attempt to resurface. Completely submerged, she panicked. Now the visions of drowning were a reality.

The world around her started to fade into a welcoming darkness. It wrapped its arms around her and carried her in its arms. The last thing she saw was the blueness of the water and the darkness sweeping her up. As the light from the sky was dimming, she noticed that the darkness had a handsome face. She smiled at him, but he looked frantically back at her.

Finally, she closed her eyes.
