Chapter 2- The Day Comes
May 30th, 2009
Alright, gotta double check. All my underwear? Check. Socks? Check. All of my tank tops? Check. Shorts? Check. Bras? Check (;. Couple pairs of sweatpants? OPE! I forgot those! I ran over to my sweatpants drawer and grabbed my favorite pairs. Back to packing. T-shirts? Yep. Jeans? You betcha. Sweatshirts? Mhm. Pj’s? Got em. Toiletries? Yep. Phone charger, I Pod charger, 2 pairs of head phones, and my wallet with money? Got it all. All done. Now I just need to pack my pillows, my favorite blanket, and I’m all set. I’m SO ready! We’re leaving tonight, so we can get on the plane right at 12:00 tomorrow morning.
I laid on my bed, searching through Facebook. All my friends (‘cept Kae) we’re beyond jealous of me. I mean, honestly, who wouldn’t? Not to be one of those girls who think they’re greater than everyone. But, seriously. My brother, Riley, knocked on my door.
“Sam, what are you bringing onto the plane?”
“My phone, I Pod, a few magazines, and my pillow and blanket. Not much, I’ll prolly fall asleep for part of the flight.”
He nodded, and closed my door. He is 3 years older than me. I’m 15, he’s 18. He is one of the best big brothers I could ever ask for. He protects me from everything. We fight a lot, but in the end, I don’t know what I would do without him.
I heard a car door, and looked out my window. Kae and her mom were lugging her things to my front porch. I ran out into the living room, and opened the door. She dropped her stuff, and ran to hug me.
“GIRL! YOU READY?! FOR THE BEST SUMMER OF YOUR LIFE?!” She yelled, while we were jumping.
“I was born ready, cheeka!” I answered. “Let’s go inside, and take a nap. We have to be up at 10:30 to drive to the airport. Out flight leaves at 12! Mrs. Younge, you can talk to my mom and chat and do adult stuff!”
Kae ran to her mom, and ambushed her with a hug. “Mom, I’m gonna miss you bunches. I’ll text ya every day, and we can call each other when the times are right! And even Skype! I love you!” I decided to leave them, so they could have a moment.I walked into my bedroom, and pulled out the mini bed under my bed. There was no way I could stay up till 12. I like my sleep. And so does Kae.
I ended up falling asleep while Kae was saying goodbye to her mom. My mom woke us both up at 10:30, and we packed our stuff into the car, and hopped in. The car ride was a half hour, but we jammed to The Jonas Brothers the whole time. By the time we realized what happened, we were already at the airport. We slowly got out of the car, and grabbed our things. I had 2 roller bags, a regular duffel, and my carry-on. Kae had 1 roller bag, 2 duffels, and a carry-on. We finally reached the airport doors, and walked in. I smiled, and smelled the air. It smells like food, from the food court. I looked around, and witnessed all that was going on. I have never been in an airport before.
“Okay, girls. We’re going to go through security, and they’re gonna take our bags, and load them onto the plane. After, we’ll go and get a bite to eat, then board on the plane. Sound good?” My mom said. We all nodded, and walked to the security. They checked us for weapons, and such. About 10 minutes later, we all arrived at the court. My mom gave me & Kae 30 dollars, and we headed over to Panda Express. That was our guilty pleasure. We got our orange chicken, and sat down. We were done in 5 minutes. Not even joking.
The rest of the family was done soon after, and we loaded onto the plane. In less than 24 hours, we would be in Australia. Wonderful, beautiful, and breath-taking Australia.
