Chapter 15 - Back To The Norm
It was now 10:46, and the two families were all on the deck, playing charades. It was a full moon, all the stars were out, people slowly boating by, the waves gently crashing. It was a perfect night. And to make it better? Liam and Kae were back together. I sat on Harry’s knee, while his mom was acting out something. I really wasn’t paying attention to the game, mostly at Harry. The way his dimples popped out when he laughed, the way the lantern lights reflected on his eyes. His curls on his forehead. If I could stare at him forever, I definitely would. His was oblivious to me staring at him. I leaned back, and gave him a kiss on the cheek. He turned his head, and smiled. There goes the dimples again. We sat there, just looking into each others eyes for who knows how long. We were interrupted when a chip hit me in the back of the head. I turned, and saw my dad smiling mischievously. “Seriously, dad?” I asked, laughing.
“Stop being all coupley in front of all of us.” He said, popping another chip into his mouth.
“YEAH! Get a room!” Riley yelled.
“NO! DO NOT GET A ROOM!” My dad yelled, making everyone laugh.
“Trust me, that will not happen ANYTIME soon, Mr. Conner!” Harry said, while squeezing my hand.
“Good.” My dad muttered, stuffing his face in with chips. I sighed, and leaned back, so my the back of my head was leaning against Harry’s shoulder. He wrapped his hands around me, and I closed my eyes.
I woke up, in my bed. I try to rub my eyes, but realize that my arms wouldn’t move. I look over, and see Harry’s arms securely wrapped around me, just like before I fell asleep. It was still dark out, since the curtains were open. I slowly lift my head up as much as I could, and see Liam and Kae sleeping silently. My throat was dry, and I had to pee SO bad. I pried Harry’s arms from around me, and slowly got up. I booked it to the bathroom in my room. After doing my business, I walked down the stairs, through the house to the kitchen. I opened the fridge, and pulled out the apple juice. “El jugo de manzana.” I whispered, while retrieving a glass. I poured a full glass, and put the juice away. I downed half the glass right away, sighing after. That felt good.
“What are you doing up at 3:15 in the morning?” I heard a voice from behind me. I turned around to see Gemma in her pj’s.
“Just woke up, and was super thirsty!” I said, motioning to the glass. “You?” I asked back, taking another sip.
“Could not sleep for the life of me!” She said, pulling up a stool that was by the island.
“I’m not tired, either!” I said, pulling up another stool, and plopping down on it.
“So, tell me, how did Harry ask you out? I haven’t talked to him about it yet!” She said, smiling.
“Welllllllll, when we went to the boardwalk, he took me on the ferris wheel, and asked me out at the top. It was SO cliché, but so amazing. No other guy has ever done that with me.” I say, beaming. It was true, no other guy was that adorable about it. Usually, it was just a “Wanna go out?”. Harry was different, and that’s what I needed. Different.
“I’m glad that he is like that. Most guys are complete dicks, but since he was was the only man of the house for a part of his life, he has learned how to make a girl happy!” She said, running her fingers through her hair.
“Wait, the only man?” I asked putting down my glass.
“Yeah, our mum and dad got a divorce when he was 7. He didn’t tell you?” She asked. I shook my head, and thought about it. It made sense now, that his last name was Styles, but Joe’s is Cox. Why didn’t Harry tell me?
“Well, I’m actually getting tired now, so I’ll see you in the morning, yeah?” Gemma said, getting up from her stool.
“Um, yeah!” I said, glancing up at her. She walked out of the room, and I took a swig of my juice. Did he not trust me, or something? It wouldn’t have mattered, it happens to alot of parents. That wouldn’t have changed my thoughts and views on him. I took the last drink of the juice, and got up. I set the glass in the sink, and walked out of the kitchen, turning the lights off. I walked up the stairs, and got to my room. I opened the door quietly, and looked in. Harry had moved since I got up. He was facing the other direction, snuggling into the comforter. This whole “Harry-parents divorced” situation isn’t going to leave my mind anytime soon…
