Pete draws circles on the pillow's edge warmed by the morning sun. He has already woken up an hour ago, but decided to soak up a little more in his warm bed.
He's smiling.
Without realizing it, over the two weeks of his new life, he is more and more often pulling a rare smile to the surface.
Stretching, the omega still gets up and heads to the bathroom. Then he gets dressed and briefly checks the time: there is still half an hour before breakfast, and his first day of online studies after a break will begin in an hour and a half. Pete is not thrilled that he will have to study online but he has no other choice, and he does not intend to drop out of university or transfer to a closer one. They did not discuss this option with Vegas at all. And Pete is grateful to his husband, because the alpha provided him with all the conditions for getting an education.
Pete sits down on the couch and, while waiting for breakfast, remembers the tour of the house that Vegas gave him the day before. Until yesterday, the omega knew only one route here: his room—stairs— dining room—and back. But, as it turned out, the rest of the rooms, including the living room, are no less light and cozy than his. Except for one. When Vegas opened his bedroom door, Pete was struck by the abundance of dark blue in the furnishing. Even the curtains and the carpet on the floor were in the same tone.
Finally, Vegas took him to the furthest part of the mansion. Pete remembers trying to stay calm when they stopped at a door very similar to the one he dreamed about on the way back from the rope track park.
"I've already told you, Pete, every door in this house is open to you. Except this one. Remember: under no circumstances should you try to open it. Can I count on a serious attitude to my request?"
Shrugging his shoulders, Pete only replied:
"If you hadn't taken me here, I wouldn't even know about its existence, Khun Vegas."
Pete remembers how his husband looked gloomy. Vegas doesn't like that the omega still treats him like a stranger.
"I'm serious, Pete. Don't get close to that door. And please don't ask why."
"Okay. No problem."
No problem ... Yeah — Pete sighs, pulling his legs up to him and pressing them to his chest. Still: what are you hiding there?
Pete is distracted from his thoughts by some wheezing from the hallway.
"Hey! And why are you sprawled out here? Right outside my room, huh?"
Usually brisk little Macau lies on the floor and breathes hoarsely, his tongue hanging sideways from his mouth.
Damn... what's wrong with him?
"Khun Vegas!"
Pete screams so loudly, completely without thinking, that he will alarm the whole house.
"What is it, Pete?"
Vegas, who rushed to the scream, does not immediately notice its cause. Then, with a strong anxiety on his face, he leans over Macau. Gently lifts the newt in the palm and quickly takes it to his bedroom. Pete can only follow him dejectedly. A barely breathing creature is placed in an aquarium — Pete noticed it even on the "house-tour".
"Uh... will he survive?" the omega asks cautiously from over his shoulder.
Vegas turns around, his face expression less worried:
"Now he will breathe, the skin will become moist, and everything will be fine."
"He will breath..."
"Yes. I told you Macau is an amphibian. And despite all his extraordinary stamina, at least once a day he needs to stay in the water."
