Pete wakes up with a slight pain in his left temple. Without opening his eyes, he holds out his hand.

It's empty. And the sheet has gone cold.

A soft snuffling, like a whistle, can be heard in nearby.

The little brat.

Pete opens his smizing eyes — Macau is lying on the edge of Vegas' pillow. But his master has not been here for a long time. The omega frowns a little disappointed, and then pays attention to a rustle in the doorway.

"Good morning."

Vegas. As always — already dressed and combed. Pete vaguely remembers the events of last night and only now pays attention to his almost nakedness. Following his gaze , the alpha hurries to explain:

"You were sweating all over. The clothes were soaked to the skin. But I immediately wrapped you in a blanket. Please don't think about anything bad."

Pete bites the corner of his lower lip:

"I don't think so... Thank you for taking care of me."

Vegas nods and comes closer:

"No classes today. I emailed to the dean's office. Breakfast will be here soon. And," the alpha looks away, as if doubting whether to speak further, but still says, "if you feel safe here, you can stay in my bedroom as long as you wish. The house is full of spare bedrooms. I can temporarily move into one of them."

Pete has a vague feeling from his words. It flashes through his head: but I feel safe only next to you. If someone had told Pete a few weeks ago that this would be the case, he would have laughed bitterly in his face. At that time, he wasn't exactly around — he couldn't look at his husband from afar without disgust."

"It's not necessary, I don't want to burden you."

"Don't rush with a decision."

Both look back at the door — the beta is standing there with a tray in his hands, the smells from which instantly wake Macau up. The tail soars up, the newt jumps on its paws and leads its muzzle towards the food.

"So," Vegas holds out his hand, hinting to Macau to climb it, but he does not think to obey, "Macau, I'm waiting."

The newt stubbornly clenches his jaws and hides behind Pete, which causes the omega to laugh.

"Okay, don't worry, I'll share the meal with him... or is he eating something different?"

Vegas folds his arms on the chest and looks sternly at his pet.

"He's an omnivore," alpha grins, "but don't give him anything sweet, otherwise he'll drink water all day until his stomach swells up like a balloon."

Pete looks at the satisfied Macau and nods:

"And I thought he eats grasshoppers and moths."

At these words, the newt bulges his eyes, sticks out his tongue and begins to feign an attack of vomiting.

Vegas shakes his head:

"No-no. I have already told you that he is a very unusual creature."

Once again, Pete hears something too sad in the alpha's voice when he talks about Macau. Meanwhile, Vegas goes to the window to open the curtains:

"Everything is too dark here because of the blue colour. We need to let more light in."

Pete squints, answering:

"Darkness is just as important as light."

Vegas turns to look at him, and he has a question in his eyes.
