Rikki-Tikki-Tavi?

Pete is confused. On the other hand, it's not necessarily about him, is it? But he has lived for so long with this desire to learn at least anything about his savior that he cannot miss even the merest opportunity.

"Okay. Just a short walk. You must understand me."

"Of course, as you like," Kinn politely lets him go ahead, slightly bowing his head. His manners are very similar to Vegas' ones.

It's rather windy outdoors, and Pete is  shivering in his thin T-shirt. They move away from the mansion at a distance of several dozen steps. Pete keeps looking around and under his feet.

"I told you: you don't have to be afraid of snakes with me."

Pete bites the corner of his lip:

"Tell me honestly, please... Do you intend to use me in your games, or to annoy my husband?"

Perhaps his question sounds too naive, because Kinn grins and clears his throat:

"Please, excuse me. But if I really wanted to annoy Vegas, I would have done it in a much more subtle way."

Really?

"Then I don't understand why you are here and why you need me."

"You really don't understand, do you?"

"Absolutely."

Kinn tilts his head back so that Pete hears a slight click in his neck. Then he says:

"Do you know why you are so afraid of snakes?"

Pete feels goosebumps begin to swarm over his skin. He nods.

"And do you remember everything in detail?"

"Unfortunately, not."

"And I remember everything in great detail," Kinn takes a step towards him, but Pete steps back two steps.

"I don't really understand what you mean. And how can this be related to me?"

"One curious little omega. He, as if spellbound, follows the snake, not even suspecting what kind of trap he is about to fall into. I," here Kinn switches a voice to a dramatic half-whisper, "happened to be nearby by accident."

The omega grits his teeth. What Kinn says is very close to the truth.

But Pete doesn't believe him:

"I have no idea how you know about this case from my childhood... After all, it could be just a coincidence. One thing I'm sure of: it wasn't you who pulled me out of that pit."

"What's the point of me deceiving you?"

Pete shrugs:

"You know best... And it would be better if we came back. I mean, I'll come back, and you, please, come to visit us when Khun Vegas is at home."

Kinn grins and nods somewhere over Pete's shoulder:

"For example, like now, right?"

Pete looks around. Vegas is standing behind him. His face expresses severity and complete calmness. But Pete knows how well he can hide what's on his mind.

"Hello, Vegas. I hope my visit did not cause you any offense?"

Vegas continues to stare at them in silence. Pete rolls his eyes and approaches the alpha speaking softly:

"I can explain everything, Khun Vegas."

Kinn walks past them with a cold smile, finally blurting out:
