"I'm here to talk to your assault victim." The detective said while flashing their badge. The nurse behind the desk took one glance up at her before sighing.
"Room 156, but good luck. She's giving everyone a hard time." The detective stared at the nurse for a second before nodding and then making her way down the hall, searching for the room in question. And once she did find it, she paused, hearing shouting coming from inside.
"Ma'am, please calm down." Another nurse said as the woman attempted to get out of bed, grunting and groaning with every move she made.
"I need to leave." She said through clenched teeth.
"You just woke up from major surgery. You can't leave yet."
"And why the hell can't I?"
"You can barely walk for one." Both the nurse and the woman who was trying to escape turned to look at the detective. "Also, because I said so. I suggest you lay back down, ma'am."
"I can walk." The woman said triumphantly. The detective nodded and motioned forward with her hand.
"Prove me wrong." The woman in the bed sat there for a minute before beginning to struggle, trying her damndest to push herself out of the bed. But to no avail, and after lots of grunts and yelps of agony, she gave up. She was barely able to move, let alone get out of bed.
"Who the hell are you anyway and what do you want?" Sighing, the detective pulled her badge out of her pocket and entered the room to show it to her.
"Detective Emily Rodriguez." She finally answered with a tight-lipped smile. The woman stared at the badge for a moment before meeting Emily's eyes.
"Are you here to arrest me or something? I just had major surgery."
"Actually the contrary, ma'am. I'm here to ask you a couple of questions about your assailant." Emily shoved her badge back into her pocket.
"Who says I want to answer your questions?"
"You don't have to." Emily paused while crossing her arms and looking to the nurse who seemingly got the hint and exited the room, making sure to close the door behind her. "But I'm going to ask the questions anyway. If I don't get an answer, so be it. We can't say I haven't tried." The woman in the bed sighed before laying her head back against the pillows.
"Fine."
"So, first things first, what is your name? You were admitted under an alias due to the nature of your injuries and since you were found with no I.D." A couple of seconds went by before an answer was given.
"Patience Kayo."
"Thank you, Patience." Emily scribbled the information down in her little notepad. "And do you know who attacked you?"
"Yes."
"Who?" Patience toyed with the blanket for a second or two before sighing.
"My father, Thomas Kayo." Emily nodded slowly.
