"Ms. Ming-Yung, I want to thank you again for finding the time to sit down and talk to me." The interviewer started, a wide grin on her face as she stared at the older woman.
"No, thank you for having me. It was a pleasure speaking with you." Bili responded, shifting in her chair.
"But, before I let you go, I have one last important question I'm sure millions of people want to know the answer to." Bili inhaled sharply before nodding.
"I have a feeling I know what it is." The interviewer chuckled, preparing herself for the delivery of the question.
"So, it's public knowledge that you hired a new CFO less than a month ago and it's also public knowledge that she, is your daughter in law and has been for a couple years now. Many people are speculating that you only hired her for that information solely." Bili bit her tongue as she fought the urge to say what she really wanted to say. "Is that true?" At the question, Bili chuckled, looking down at her dress and smoothing out the wrinkles before looking back up at the interviewer.
"I would like all records to show that I usually don't like explaining my decisions and I usually won't but because I know people get so pent up about it and are spreading rumors, I will speak on it." Bili sighed, straightening her back and smiled, that billion dollar smile.
"Aayla Richards," Bili let out a breathy laugh. "The things I could say about her is endless. She is a business woman, before anything else and she makes that known. She came and applied for a job at the age of fifteen and, I hired her on the spot. There wasn't much a fifteen year old could do for me at the time, but she made it known that she was going to be somebody. Especially when she was making sure I knew that she wasn't going to take no for an answer. So, we found little things she could do after school. She has always been a wiz with numbers, so she was usually crunching numbers for some of my veterans who have been working for me before she was even thought about. She was amazing, is amazing." Bili cleared her throat.
"The decision to make her CFO had nothing to do with my son, or my relationship with her. No one here, that has heard and seen the things she's done for this company, can tell me she doesn't deserve to be where she is now. It wasn't even a decision I could have made on my own and in all honesty, it wasn't my idea. Her predecessor mentioned her by name and I wasn't mad at the suggestion, but we did make it fair and still interviewed others because there were a lot of amazing other candidates. But they aren't her.
I knew of Aayla's work ethic for a while and I've been impressed. Now I could've of hired someone else that may be able to do the job of a CFO, but they won't do what Aayla's does. Which is why I hired her. Not because it'll make my son happy. Not because I was comfortable with her, but for the sole fact that she can do it all." Bili relaxed back into the seat. "I curated my entire staff on who I knew were going to fit in my erratic puzzle and who could properly shift to further build my company into something way better. I had too many slip ups in the past to not know what's right from wrong and that's what I based my team off of. I knew who had their priorities straight, and that's all what matters to me most."
