two weeks later - 3rd pov

y/n had taken the books advice with letting rain observe her from afar, though she decided to let him make the first move to a friendship.

it was pretty easy actually. and it fit perfectly into what y/n had to do to get aether to trust her, though she was sure he already did.

"hey, aether," y/n smiled, walking into the common room and tossing a banana over to him. aether caught it, smiling at her.

be casual with the mystic ghouls. they already have to much turmoil in their lives as a rare type of ghoul, so they want everything to be as normal as they can get it.

rain looked up from his book, smiling softly at y/n as they made eye contact. y/n smiled back, subtly waving.

no matter how quiet a water ghoul can be, they want to be acknowledged when around. but since they don't speak their mind that often, they usually go unnoticed. do your best to keep them involved!

y/n sat down next to aether, laying her head in his lap as she dramatically complained about how her day had been going.

it had actually been fine, y/n just emphasized the details that she would normally brush off.

mystic ghouls want to be confided in. they want to feel like they can be there for someone without thinking they're being used for their unique abilities.

aether looked down at y/n from his book, setting it aside with his banana as he tilted his head.

aether nodded along with y/n's rambling, occasionally running his fingers through her hair, starting at her scalp.

by the end of her ranting, y/n had worked herself up a bit.

"i just don't understand why she's so.. her," y/n groaned, talking about one of the other sisters of sin.

"doesn't she sound awful, rain?" y/n asked, looking over at him. rain looked up, trying to hide the smile that had been present on his face. "she does," rain nodded, trying not to laugh.

involve them in conversation. it can be only for a moment, or trying to get them to interact for a couple hours. everything you do will get you somewhere with a water ghoul.

y/n smiled widely, looking up at aether. "i'm not the only one," she grinned. aether laughed, "i think i've seen her around the ministry before. i never liked her either," aether shrugged, still running his hand through y/n's hair.

y/n settled further into aether's lap, looking over at rain after a moment.

"rain," she called. the water ghoul looked up, tilting his head slightly. "come here," y/n reached her hand out, catching aether's smile becoming a bit forced.

rain walked over, noticing aether's tail twitching in a slightly aggravated state. rain looked up to aether's eyes, getting a subtle glare. rain just scoffed slightly to himself, sitting at aether's feet and looking at y/n.

she smiled pulling rain closer so he was leaning against aether's shins, y/n's arm hanging off the couch and resting on rain's chest.

"i think you both are my favorite.." y/n mumbled, staring up at the ceiling.

mystic ghouls want to be appreciated. usually, the focus more on words of affirmation than any other love language, but anything works. they're mystic after all.

water ghouls rely on constant affirmation. if you go a couple days without reassuring them they'll likely have a (very private) nervous breakdown. keep their confidence in you high, and you'll have yourself a water ghoul aching to be more than acquaintances.

rain's face lit up red at y/n comment, grateful his mask had blocked his face as he stared up at the ceiling with her.

aether's tail was quick to wrap around y/n's leg after her comment, also glad his mask could hide most of his expression.

when both ghoul's reacted to y/n's statement, she knew she did everything right and had two more ghouls behind her back.

a small smile graced her face as she closed her eyes, falling asleep.

first person

"WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME WE WERE CUDDLING WITH Y/N?!" dew's very loud voice scared me awake.

aether and rain growled at the fire ghoul for waking me up, but they didn't seem to affect him.

dew ran at me practically laying on top of me, adding more weight to aether's lap. i laughed softly at how clingy dew was, wrapping my free arm around him.

"we're cuddling with y/n?" swiss asked, his head popping in through the doorway. once he saw the dog pile, swiss ran over, sitting next to aether, both mine and dew's legs in his lap.

"what are all of you yelling- i can't believe you've left me out of this." mountain scoffed, hurrying over to us and laying down, his head in rain's lap.

though i felt a bit squished, a big smile was evident on my face as dew dug his face further into my collarbone.

i looked up at aether, his barely extended claws massaging my scalp. i smiled softly at the mystic ghoul, getting a small smile back as his eyes seemed to glow a bit brighter before i was hit with a wave of tiredness.

i closed my eyes, hugging dew tighter for a moment before tapping rain's chest, hoping he understood what i wanted.

rain leaned further back, his head touching my side as he brought his hand to mine, holding it gently. i squeezed rain's hand, relaxing fully as i went back to sleep with the ghouls all resting around me.
