And They're Off

"WHOOOOOOOO!" Sonic the Hedgehog howls with joy as the high-altitude wind blows against his face.

Sonic's quills dance wildly behind his head while his arms fully stretch out to catch the full breeze. Tails stares nervously at his enthusiastic best friend standing on the top wings of the plane. The second seat behind the concentrated fox was designed specifically for him in case an opportunity to fly together arose. He should've known Sonic is not one to sit down in one place for too long. But still, to stand on top of a plane currently 22,000 feet in the air going at full speed is nuts. A thought that makes Tails even in his current anxious state smile a little.

That's so Sonic. He thinks to himself.

Still, even with the nice thought, the butterflies in Tails's stomach still won't let up. At first, the young boy thought it was just the nervousness of flying. After all, he's only tested this plane three times before now and doesn't even have his pilot's license. But that's only a fraction of it. Tails has finally realized what exactly he's doing. A Realization that was prolonged due to the excitement of seeing Sonic again.

If this is serious, he is assisting Sonic in possibly saving the world. While nothing new considering how The Metal War went, this is different. Then, he only came up with schematics and built Sonic and GUN helpful inventions. He was never actually in the field. But now as he and Mobius's War Hero sail across the clouds, Tails realizes he will be directly in the fight this time. A revelation that never ceases to form sweat on his brow. Sure, Sonic will be there to keep him safe, but the thought of being even near the battle is one the genius doesn't want to think about too much.

"SO, DO YOU KNOW WHERE WE'RE HEADING NEXT?" Sonic yells over the rushing wind.

"UH, YEAH!" Tails yells back. "GUN GAVE ME A MAP OF MOBIUS THAT HAS THE LOCATION OF ALL OF THE ENERGY READINGS. WE'RE CURRENTLY HEADING FOR THE OLD CHEMICAL PLANT."

Sonic sighs. He remembers the chemical plant all too well. During The Metal War, the plant was used to harness and even create certain chemical mixtures that could go into making what could be considered doomsday weapons. He only visited once while the war raged on. It was like a second home to GUN. After the war, the old plant was quickly abandoned, partially due to slight radiation levels after some goofball messed up and combined the wrong chemicals in the in-house laboratory, causing a deadly explosion. Oddly enough, the radiation there only affects humans.

Good for us, I suppose, Sonic thinks. Who knows what we're going to find there. I still haven't fully wrapped my head around why Robotnik decided to show his face after all this time. I mean, I'm excited to kick his butt for good, but whatever made him crawl out of his hole has got to be worth the risk. Oh well, like it's important, anyway. I'm just excited about my rematch!

A smile spreads across the eager hedgehog's face. And it grows wider once he sees a flock of blue birds fly past the Tornado. This is already shaping up to be an amazing adventure.
