Ultimate Power

Sonic can feel the intense heat of the stranger's abnormal attack on one of his quills as his body dashes across the chilly air. Any slower, and they surely would have disintegrated on impact. The yellow energy spear misses its target by a hair and leaves a small crater in the spot the blue hedgehog once stood. Sonic lands on his feet near the edge of the high formation.

"Not one for words, I see," Sonic remarks with a slight grin.

"What is there to discuss, war hero?" Shadow questions as he reels his arm back and unleashes another devastating blast of concentrated energy.

Now aware of the doppelganger's attack radius, Sonic easily speeds out of the way of the incoming energy spear and stands next to his previous spot.

"Are you another robot?" Sonic asks while stretching. "You don't look like one. And the other guy was way more challenging."

"Hmph," Shadow grins. "Fool. It would be wise not to confuse me for one of the Doctor's creations. Omega, get back."

As E-123 Omega steps away next to the hole Rouge is still digging through, Shadow presses his hands together. A red aura covers his body and grows steadily intense. Sonic takes a step back, prepared to dodge whatever this lackie is planning. His hands ball into fists and he gets into a running stance, ready for anything.

"Now I will show you the ultimate power," Shadow says as his burning red eyes meet Sonic's. "CHAOS... BLAAAAAST!"

A wave of blind, unmatched energy fiercely erupts from the black hedgehog, dematerializing all of the snow near him. Sonic just barely shields his face before he is struck by the burning blast which knocks him to the ground. Every muscle in his body screams in protest as the hedgehog slowly rises back up, with parts of his blue fur covered with ash.

Shadow crosses his arms with confidence, but is then immediately taken aback when a gloved fist materializes in front of his face. He only has enough time to register that it belongs to the war hero before he is knocked back. He catches himself before he stumbles to the ground, but it doesn't do him much good when a sudden sharp pain goes up his back, sending him into the air. It was Sonic's foot.

His speed... Shadow ponders. The rumors don't do it justice.

He crashes back onto the rocky mountain, tumbling across the ground. Shadow looks up and dashes right of Sonic's incoming fist. The focused hedgehog responds with a roundhouse kick, but the quick war hero ducks under it and retaliates with an uppercut that Shadow quickly counters with his arm.

"CHAOS SPEAR!" He yells, sending a spear of yellow energy at his challenger.

Sonic backflips out of the way of the incoming blow, but as he lands, he's put to the ground by a sweep kick from Shadow, who launches into the air. Sonic spin-dashes out of the way as the black hedgehog's fist meets the ground, creating a sizable hole.

Right as Sonic thinks of uncurling, a barrage of bullets aimed in his direction makes him think otherwise, and he rolls around their source: E-123 Omega. Two canons emerge from the robot's shoulders, and from them comes a pack of missiles.

"I just can't catch a break," Sonic sighs as he speeds away from the incoming missiles.

On Saturdays, Sonic likes to race against trains in Grand Metropolis. It's never a close finish, but sometimes, he'll decide on a handicap such as no jumping or doing the entire thing backwards. So naturally, a pack of missiles is a cakewalk. Or at least it should've been. But one thing Sonic did not predict was for his black doppelganger to appear out of thin air in front of him. Whatever his trick was, it most definitely wasn't speed.

"CHAOS SPEAR!"

Sonic drops and slides across the icy mountaintop. The cold ground is a nice comfort against the hot spear of burning energy that flies over him, nearly grazing his nose. A cocky smile spreads across Sonic's face, but when he looks back, it disappears as he sees the spear heading for one of the missiles.

"Uh oh," he mumbles.

The fierce explosion spreads to the other missiles, resulting in a premature detonation that nearly deafens everyone present and sends a shockwave that carries the two hedgehogs through the air and down the mountaintop.
