Rest

No one out of the pair of four Mobians had a clue just how tired they were until they each felt the alleviating, warm comfort of the hotel beds. After being dropped off by James, Sonic was determined to get back on Eggman's trail immediately. At least at first. That was until he remembered that neither he nor Tails have had a proper meal since they set off. James had some candy bars in the glove compartment for long road travel, but they were hardly enough to fulfill their hunger. Besides, he and Knuckles hadn't had any rest in forever.

Realizing that Amy left her purse at home, Tails didn't bother to bring his wallet, Knuckles didn't know what money is, and he spent the last of his rings on a hot dog the other day, Sonic was unsure of how they'd find a place to stay. But when he walked into the hotel lobby to check their prices, the Mobian bunny receptionist nearly fainted in her chair. She granted him and his friends a First Class room due to his "Savior of the world" benefit. A bestowed perk from the President that enables him to buy what he wants, when he wants it.

I guess that makes sense. Sonic thought, scratching his head. Now that I think of it, I'm not even sure rings are a real currency.

When Sonic expressed his lack of knowledge on such a fantastic reward, Amy and Tails's jaws dropped to the floor. When they found their room, S-1-9-9-1, everyone but Knuckles was absolutely stunned by the sheer size of it. Easily, it beats the length of Amy's living room. The walls are all a velvet red, the floor is a smooth, calming brown, and the ceiling is a plain white. Mounted on the left-side wall is a flat-screen television, and occupied on the right is a shelf where a pile of appetizing snacks and beverages await. Something everyone smiles upon seeing. And finally, to the back of the large room are three, well-furnished beds.

Tails was the first to plop down on one. A huge relief after spending so long in a car. Amy was next and she practically made a snow-angle, smiling as she took in the first-class treatment she was now getting.

"I could get used to this!" she says, laughing along with Tails.

Knuckles is next. Unaware of what could be so special about a rectangular, soft platform, he lays his back on it and understands on contact. The large leaves he would gather and stick together using honey would never fail to provide a comfortable night's sleep, but compared to this, they don't even begin to compare. Not even the Hammock beds he would rest on as a child.

"Not gonna doze off, are you Knux?" Sonic asks grinning, eyeing Knuckles's peaceful expression.

"Oh please," Knuckles dismisses, waving a hand. "Us echidnas can stay up for days. We decide how much sleep we get."

"Uh huh," Sonic responds, rolling his eyes. "Anyway, this should do until the morning."

"But wait, there are only three beds?" Amy realizes, looking around.

"That's fine," Sonic shrugs. "I can sleep anywhere. YOU guys are the ones who need your rest. Adventures like these are what I live for."

"Okay..." Amy says, feeling a tad guilty for occupying a mattress that could alternatively go to Mobius's war hero. "But let me know if you change your mind and I'll gladly give up mine."

"I appreciate it," Sonic says before his eyes catch Tails fiddling with a familiar-looking device. "What are you working on, little buddy?"

"Fixing Miles Electric," he answers, not breaking his concentration. "If I can get it working by the morning then we can resume our search for the chaos emeralds."

"Good thinking," Sonic yawns. "We're already behind Robuttnik's trail. Once we get our rest, we need-"

A loud snore interrupts the hedgehog's words. He and the others turn its source and they all share a light laugh upon seeing Knuckles passed out on the mattress, deep in a heavy slumber.

"I guess echidnas aren't as resilient to rest as he thought," Tails remarks, chuckling.

"You can say that again, pal," Sonic says, crossing his arms.
