Chapter 37: Chisaki Kai - Manipulated

Chapter 37

"Ugh, do you have to scream?" Kai deadpanned, stepping away from Momo and putting his mask back on, "You try and have fun once and everyone hates it..." That seemed to be more of a personal thought, at least to Momo, especially with how he muttered it.

"Well, forgive me for screaming over the fact I have a long-lost elder brother who is also a villain!" She shot back. Kai looked at Momo and scratched his chin.

"Yeah, okay, fair enough." He shrugged, which honestly surprised Momo. For a villain, he was surprisingly polite. She shook her head; humanizing her captor would only lead to Stockholm syndrome.

"So...why did you go to all this trouble to kidnap me? To make me switch sides? Kill me?" She was shaking in her boots, but she kept a defiant look in her eyes.

"Kill you? Good lord, Momo-,"

"Don't."

"Very well. But you seriously think I would hurt an innocent person?"

"What about Aizawa-Sensei?"

"That was Shigaraki, not me." Momo scowled as she realized that Kai had a point, and she really couldn't think of an instance where he'd gone out of his way to hurt an opponent.

"Alright, then why did you kidnap me?" She asked. Kai hummed for a moment.

"Because I could, I suppose. Wanted to see you, check on how you've been going." He shrugged. Momo looked on in disbelief as he continued talking, "Speaking of which, my god, little sister," He paused to make sure Momo was alright with the nickname, "your Hero costume is a disgrace. You're just showing off your breasts for the whole world to see. And sure, I get it, your quirk requires your skin to be uncovered to be used, but just use a sports bra or something!"

'He's a surprisingly caring older brother,' Momo noted. But still there was a single question she very much wanted to know the answer to.

"...How did you even get here?" She asked, which made Kai pause, "What series of events led to you becoming a villain?" The man looked at her for a few seconds before sighing, grabbing a nearby chair and dragging it over so he could collapse into it.

"I suppose I need to get this off my chest. Let's start from the beginning of this history of the recent past..."

Kai was 4 when he realized that quirks weren't always a good thing.

It had been a regular day at the daycare for Kai. He was reading silently in the corner, the book in his hands far thicker and wordier than anything a kid his age should be reading. Generally, most kids would rather play with their friends, or maybe finger paint. But Kai? He was different, and always had been. He was destined for greatness, if his status as the heir to the Yaoyorozu conglomerate was to say anything.

Of course, being 4, Kai didn't understand any of this, as smart as he was. In fact, he didn't really ever notice how he was different to the other children. He never thought about how weird it was for a kid his age to be reading a book on Quirk Science when even Middle Schoolers didn't read books like this. But it's not like he saw the other kids as weird or anything. In fact, he had quite an open lookout on the topic, believing that everyone just had their own little interests, and it just so happened his was rarer for his age group than other interests like sports or painting.

"Kai-Chan, would you like to hold Mr. Fluffles?" That was his teacher, a sweet lady named Gomihito-Sensei. She tried to get Kai out of his little bubble by doing things like this. And while Kai usually didn't like her doing this (what was so wrong with him enjoying reading?), he wouldn't forsake the opportunity to hold the class rabbit, Mr. Fluffles. With a quick nod of his head, Gomihito-Sensei smiled and picked up the rabbit from his cage, and handed him to Kai, who gently held him. Mr. Fluffles had a strange aura around him for some reason. One that allowed Kai to both relax and think. And think he did, wondering about everything and anything quirk related.
