"Are you seriously not worried about what it'll be like without Tezuka-san here?" Eiji asked after we got home.
"No. Tezuka'll be fine. Oishi's responsible and we have me," I said, not bothering to be humble. "Eiji," I said sing-songy. "Can we play a match? I'm bored."
Eiji immdiately brightened up. "Hai!"
"Let's go to the street courts! I hear they've got some good players," I said with a grin as I jumped off the bed. I miscalculated and ended up landing on top of Eiji.
"Sorry, Niisan," I said as I climbed off of him. I picked up my racket and then rested it on my shoulder, flashing my signature smirk at Eiji. "Let's do this." And then we raced across town to get to the street courts.
"I beat you," I grinned at Eiji as he ran over to me. We quickly unpacked our bags and dropped them on an empty bench.
We walked onto court and then took our positions on either side, a competative glint in our eyes.
"Hey, you two!" a voice shouted at us before we could serve. I turned and saw a silver haired boy and another one just like him. Huh, must be twins. "We want a match with you right now. Doubles."
I turned to Eiji and shrugged. "Okay."
I moved to Eiji's side of the court and took my position at the baseline since Eiji was a net player. I tossed the ball lightly in the air and then slammed it with my racket hard.
"Ace," I said smugly. They ball spun on the ground and rolled back all the way to my feet by the force of the ricochet.
"1-love!" I shouted.
"Those two are good. I haven't seen them around here before," the boys whispered back and forth. At our break they were talking with other players.
"Have any of you seen these two before?" one of the twins asked.
The guy looked over at us and frowned.
"They go to Seigaku," he responded. "They're regulars. There's Kikumaru-senpai and Kikumaru-san. The boy plays as the Golden Pair and the girl plays singles and with Fuji-senpai"
"Intelligent. Probably a data player, eh, Eiji?" I nudged him. He blinked and then nodded quickly and vigorously.
"Hai," Eiji replied.
"You mean we challenged two Seigaku regulars to a doubles match?" the twins exclaimed together.
"Hai," the boy said, starting to walk away until one of them grabbed his wrist.
"Tell us their weaknesses," he demanded.
"The boy lacks stamina," he replied, shrugging.
"And what about the girl?" the other twin asked.
"Her? She doesn't have any weaknesses," the boy responded, walking away.
"What tennis player doesn't have any weaknesses?" a twin asked irratatedly.
"Meh. Who cares? We'll just focus on the boy and tire him out and then get her," the other one said with a smirk.
I sighed and stepped back onto court. They're not going to win by tiring Eiji out.
We scored two more games before the running started to take a toll on Eiji and he got more tired with every step. Eventually he just stopped playing and stood there with his head hanging as he slowly refueled and gained his strength back.
I ran across the court, back and forth, and back and forth. I scored two moer games before I faltered and tripped in worry over Eiji.
And then he snapped upright and lunged, catching the ball and returning it with power. He held his hand out to me from my position on the ground.
"Eiji!" I shouted happily as I gratefully took his hand and let him pull me up. I gave him a quick hug before pulling away and resuming my position on court. I didn't have anything holding me back anymore, I can play as hard as I want. i smirked.Fuji's P.O.V
I watched silently from behind the fence at their backs. Etsuko had fallen because Eiji was currently out of commision and regaining his strength and stamina from the earlier games. Eiji held a hand out to Etsuko and helped her to her feet. She gave him a hug and then went back to her old position, a sadistic smirk on her lips. She was so different from Eiji yet so alike in so many ways. And she was perfect. Beautiful, a tennis player, and everything I ever wanted. I lgihtly shake my head, ridden myself of the thoughts. Eiji wouldn't let me date her. He was more protective over her than I've ever seen him before. When it came to Etsuko, she could charm anyone with something as simple as a smile. I'm pretty sure she even charmed Tezuka and Kaido no matter how much they refuse to admit it. I got a notification and looked down at my phone. It was a text from Oishi.
I'm on my way, I replied before leaving the courts.Etsuko's P.O.V
We won the game in the end. It was 6-2. I high-fived Eiji and then we went back home. I was tired from playing in the sun all day. So very, very tired. Usually Eiji is the oen tired after matches, but this time I am. I'm only tired from being in the sun. Not from playing. Playing makes me happy and full of energy, it doesn't deplete it.
I should probably get together with Fuji soon so we can get to know each other better to improve at our doubles pair. I sighed and then flopped onto Eiji's bed with him.
"Today was fun," I murmured.
"Yeah. Yeah, it really was," Eiji replied.
