A few days later, Lupin came back, much to everyone's delight. But he was confused as to why Snape gave them homework.

Dean: It's not fair, he was only filling in. Why should he be able to assign us homework?

Seamus: We don't know anything about werewolves!

Ron: Two rolls of parchment!

Max: We told him that we didn't reach nocturnal animals yet, but he said we were really behind...

Ron: Two rolls of parchment.

Lupin: (raises his hand) I will talk to Professor Snape. You don't have to do the essay.

Ziad threw his hands up.

Max: (groans) You gotta be kidding me

Max: (groans) You gotta be kidding me.

Hermione: Oh no, but I've already finished it.

Ziad & Max: So did we.

Lupin: Well, in that case, 25 points to Gryffindor to each of you.

Some time later, Lupin ended the class, but he asked Harry and Max to stay.

Lupin: (to Harry) I am sorry about your broomstick, Harry. Is there any chance of fixing it?

Harry: (sighs) No, the Willow destroyed it.

Max: Professor, why does the Dementors affect us? More so than they do anyone else?

Lupin: Dementors are amongst the foulest creatures to walk the Earth. They feed on every good feeling, every happy memory...until a person is left with absolutely nothing but his or her worst experiences. Neither of you are weak, Harry, Max. Dementors affect you two most because there are true horrors in your past. Horrors your classmates can scarcely imagine. Both of you have nothing to be ashamed of.

Harry: I'm scared, Professor.

Max: Yeah, me too.

Lupin: I would consider you fools if you weren't.

Harry: (looks at Max, then back at Lupin) Professor, we need to learn how to fight them. You could teach us how you made those Dementors go away on the train.

Lupin: There were only three on the train that night, Harry, I don't pretend to be an expert. But as they seemed to have taken a liking to the two of you, perhaps I can teach you, but after the holidays. For now...now I need to rest.

Max: What about Ziad, Professor? Would it not be beneficial for him to learn as well?

Lupin: Dumbledore taught him that spell already. You're free to go.
