·˚· ͟͟͞͞꒰➳ WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE, prologue

Dream had quite a few regrets in life. Not a lot, but a few. It was mainly because, every time he did something, he always thought about it before he did it. Although some people fail to believe it, he had quite thorough thought processes when it comes to doing something serious. Another reason he had very few regrets was because when there comes a time where he may actually regret something, he's always too arrogant to say so. In which case, he'll just tell everybody that that's what he was meant to do and everything that he had done was calculated.

He never liked to admit when he was wrong. That was just how he was. But he would admit that he had messed up a million times over if it meant that it would reverse things back to the way they once were back at Dream's old school. If he could live that moment where he had truly fucked up for the first time, then there are just so many things that he simply would've done differently without even a second thought. If there was a way to reverse all of the damage, then he would do it.

Maybe it was the fact that he had a little control issues and let his anger slip a lot of the time. Despite his familiarity with the other students, that certainly didn't mean that he was friendly with them all. He wasn't proud to say that he got into a lot of fights and that he came out of all of them with no remorse and the clear winner. This one, though, was different.

Back at his old school, the Barleighs state school, he had just recently gotten into the last fight that he would ever have at that institution. Some fights he had were verbal; most of the fights he had were physical. Like this one, for example. It was between him and a student a year above him. He may have been swept up by the fact that there were students and phone cameras surrounding him to record the showdown, which may have hazed his memories a bit due to the repetitive flashing lights, but his sister remembered it all very clearly.

She couldn't express the dissapointment she had felt upon pushing through the people swarming around her brother and the idiot that was attacking him. As soon as she had gained word of what was going on, she had rushed out onto the field where the fight was taking place. A large army of people were already there, cheering and encouraging the both of them to continue, despite a pack of teachers already finding out what was going on. In fact, the fight had become so popular that almost everybody had wanted to see how it would play out. However, that wouldn't happen, because the only person that pulled one of the members away before anything worse could happen, was Alyssa.

She remembered screaming at the top of her lungs for the other student to stop. Dream had been strewn on top of him, throwing punches at him like his life depended on it. And from below, the kid was swinging at him back, tugging at his hoodie and his arms, trying to pull him off. When Alyssa had finally made her way through the crowd, she linked her arms around Dream's from behind and pulled him away from the boy who was on the floor. Once he was free from Dream's grasp, he did make an attempt to swing at him again while he was being held back by Alyssa, but by that point, the teachers had already reached the situation.

He refused to go to the hospital. Nor his sister and mother could figure out why. Maybe it was because he was embarassed. Or perhaps the thought that his injuries weren't severe enough to go to accident and emergency. Nevertheless, he stayed home to tend to his own wounds, sometimes letting his sister tend to them for him because there were some marks that he could not reach.

After the fight, he took three days off to recover. And even after those three days, he did not return to Barleighs. Because his mother had finally received the news that he had been expelled.

During the week of receiving the news, his mother and sister fought tooth and nail for him to stay at the school. He didn't do anything about it, he would just silently listen. Sometimes he force himself to stay awake at night to listen to his mother's conversations on the phone. He'd often hear debating, followed by a collection of angry replies and the phone line being cut off by her hanging up.

And as for Alyssa, she refused to go into school without her brother. An act of truancy, some may say. But she believed that it was for good reason. The few days that she did march down to school was in an attempt to reason with the principle, begging him to let Dream back in. To which she was always met with a dissapointing response.

Not wanting to return to school without Dream, their mother was forced to pull her out of her old school to find another one to place them in. Somewhere where Dream could get into less fights and that he could actually go to learn. There were so many nights were he had woken up in the middle of the night and poked his head down the staircase to see his mother resting against the coffee table, trying her best not to fall asleep at her laptop as she made several attempts to find an establishment perfectly fit for the both of them.

Although soon enough, she would find what she was looking for. But it wasn't a place that either of them expected.

It was a private boarding school about three hours away from where they lived. One with dorms so that they could stay there during their studies. When the siblings were told the news, his mom could practically feel Dream's heart sink when he found out that he was going to be moving. Out of all of the schools in their area that they could have chosen, they settled with a high-class private academy far away from where their old school was located. To make it even worse, they had uniforms, meaning that Dream was no longer allowed to wear what he wanted.

He felt bad for wanting to complain. Due to being moved a couple months already into the year, it was difficult to get even one of them in. It was a miracle that his mother was able to manage both. It took a lot of convincing and, most importantly, a lot of money since private schools certainly weren't cheap. When Dream asked why she had put all of her savings towards this, she only replied saying that it was for his own good because he needed somewhere where he could be disciplined. She hoped that the behaviour of the students in that school would rub off on him.

The last time he had seen his mother before leaving was at the train station to the town the school was placed in. He hadn't said a lot to Alyssa, but he could tell that she was obviously upset that she was having to move. She had made quite a few friends back at their old school and it really was a shame that she was having to leave it all behind, especially for a place that was probably snobbish and full of wealthy brats. Dream had said sorry for dragging her down with her, but he wished that he could say it again, and again, and again until it finally felt real.

But once she had fallen asleep on the train about half an hour into their journey, he knew that it was finally official and that he was moving to Cellmoor Academy.
