it was the day of percy jackson's funeral.

[name] went through the morning with her hopes high. she didn't know when she'll see percy again but just the thought of him being all right made it better.

the blonde was also mad at the fact that percy tried to sacrifice himself when it was her fault for wanting to look around. she should have been the one to stay back.

at least, that's what [name] thought.

the morning went by fast and after breakfast—which she didn't have—all of the campers gather around the amphitheater.

[name] was standing with her group of friends, including the stroll brother, august pierce from the apollo cabin, and now ezra lough who recently became friend with them.

she stared out into the huge flame in front of her with dim eyes. strangely, she felt comfort from it.

chrion then stepped up, with a grim face.

"i never thought i'll have to lead this so early. percy jackson, son of poseidon, was a hero to all. he sacrificed himself so annabeth chase and [name] [lastname] could escape. as it's been two week since we've last seen him, we sadly have to assume he is dead. after so long of just silence, it is unlikely our prayers will be answered. i have asked his best surviving friend to do the final honours."

annabeth stepped up, but she stopped and looked around the crowd; eyes soon landing on [name]'s honey brown ones.

she waved her over.

[name] was nervous to go up, but she didn't want to say no, as it would make her seem like she hated the guy that 'sacrificed' himself for her. so, [name] walked up and stood by annabeth.

the campers all had their eyes on the two girls, watching as annabeth and [name] took a long green silk burial cloth, embroidered with a trident, and set it to flames.

the smell of salty water, like the beach—dawned over [name] and it remained her of the boy.

[name] spoke up first, "i just met percy recently, but in such a short time, he became such a close friend to me. he was the best..."

annabeth talked next.

"he was probably the bravest friend i've ever had. he..." she suddenly stopped talking and her face went blood red. "he's right there!"

heads turned. people gasped.

[name] actually thought annabeth was joking at first so she was about to laugh, but then realized the girl was sadly not a funny person so she turned as well.
