the group finally stopped in a room full of waterfalls.

the floor was one big pit, ringed by a slippery stone walkway. around them on all four walls, water tumbled from huge pipes.

the water spilled down into the pit, and even when percy shone a light, she couldn't see the bottom.

[name] fell to the ground against the wall and tilted her head up. percy hurried over and kneeled down next to her. "you're such a dumbass, you could have gotten killed." he mumbled.

"but i didn't." she breathed out, a tired smirk on her red face.

"you're bleeding." percy looked down at her scratched knees and immediately pulled his bag over, pulling out the container of nectar.

with his tanned hands, he easily parried the lid of the container opened and gingerly offered it to [name] with a small hesitate smile.

her warm brown eyes gaze at him with an unreadable look, deep inside quite surprised at how caring percy was to her without even knowing her for long.

with no hesitation he saved her from the monster back there, sacrificing what looked to be a special shield just for .. her? and now offering his own supply of nectar?

[name] warmly smiled back at him, reaching out to grab the container as her fingers slightly gazed percy's own. she glanced back up to look at him just to see his seas green eyes back on annabeth who stood a few feet away talking to briares.

the girl bit down on her pink lips and glanced back down; taking a sip of the sweet nectar as she started to pay attention to the conversation currently happening.

"this pit goes straight to tartarus," briares murmured. "i should jump in and save you trouble."

"don't talk that way," annabeth told him while looking at [name] to make sure she is okay. "you can come back to camp with us. you can help us prepare. you know more about fighting titans than anybody."

"i have nothing to offer," briares said. " i have lost everything."

"what about your brothers?" tyson asked. "the other two must still stand tall as mountains! we can take you to them."

briares's expression morphed to something even sadder: his grieving face. "they are no more. they faded."

the waterfalls thundered. tyson stared into the pit and blinked tears out of his eye.

"what exactly do you mean, they faded?" percy asked, entering the conversation. "i thought monsters were immortal, like the gods."

"percy," grover said weakly. "even immortality has limits. sometimes... sometimes monsters get forgotten and they lose their will to stay immortal."
