distance was shorter in the labyrinth.

still, by the time rachel got them all back to times square, [name] felt like they'd pretty much run all the way from new mexico.

they climbed out of the marriott basement and stood on the sidewalk in the bright summer daylight, squinting at the traffic and crowds.

[name] took a deep breathe. she was finally out of the labyrinth. she hoped it was for good this time.

[name] also couldn't decide which seemed less real – new york or the crystal cave where she'd watched a god die.

percy led the way into an alley. then he whistled as loud as he could, five times.

a minute later, rachel gasped. "they're beautiful!"

a flock of pegasi descended from the sky, swooping between the skyscrapers. a beautiful black pegasi was in the lead, followed by four of his white friends.

[name] knew the name of them all, as whenever she gets in trouble (which is a lot) she's forced to clean the stables.

the only black pegasi there was percys, named blackjack.

percy talked to his beautiful pegasi.

"yeah," percy answered. "i'm lucky that way. listen, we need a ride to camp quick."

blackjack turned to one of the pegasus named guido, who started to groaned and complained, but he then walked over to tyson.

[name] and everybody started saddling up – except rachel.

"well," she told percy, "i guess this is it."

percy nodded uncomfortably.

he then glanced at [name], who sent him a smile which he returned sweetly.

"thanks, rachel," percy said. "we couldn't have done it without you."

"i wouldn't have missed it. i mean, except for almost dying, and pan..." her voice faltered.

"he said something about your father," percy remembered. "what did he mean?"

[name] decided to stop listening to their conversation at that point and focus on her pegasus who was black and white.

"hey, belle. how are you girl?" she brushed the pegasus's hair back and smiled. belle was probably her favorite pegasus. she would always pick her during riding lessons.

the pegasus negged back and dipped her body slightly down, so [name] could get on easily.

"thank you."
