After Dustin had thought Eddie died in his arms, he sobbed loudly, screaming for Steve and Nancy to come and help him. They both ran and found Dustin and a lifeless Eddie and freaked out. Steve wasted no time picking up Eddie bridal style and running to the nearest portal.
He had no idea how he'd done it but he had gotten everyone out, including Eddie. They rushed Eddie to the hospital, making sure to tell them everything that happened as soon as they got there. That they had been attacked by something and Eddie desperately needed help. They rushed him back and they all stood there with tears in their eyes, knowing that Eddie might not make it out. Steve felt a sob rush to his mouth and covered it with the back of his hand looking over at Dustin who was crying perfusely in Robins lap. Robins was sobbing as well and Nancy was doing everything she could to hold herself together, and that's when Steve lost it. They had lost so many people to the upside down and he didn't want Eddie to be the next. Even thought they didn't know him very well Steve still respected the dude. He had risked his life for them and now he laid lifeless in a hospital and there they say waiting.
Steve finally let the sob go and they all looked at him. He was looking towards the emergency room entrance where they had taken Eddie. He couldn't help the fear the consumed him. Eddie was basically dead. It was all too much. Steve felt arms around him, tightly hugging him as they all sunk to the floor. Steve didn't hold it in now. The weight of everything crashing down around him in this hospital was all too much to bare. He grabbed Dustin and Robin and hugged them tightly as Nancy hugged his back, and they all sobbed. They sobbed for Billy and hopper and now Eddie... another sob ripped its way out of Steve's mouth. They were emotional unwell and physically beaten now.
They stayed like this for awhile. Finally letting themselves feel everything they felt in the upside down, Dustin and Eddie the most thought. Dustin had had someone he looked up to the most look into his eyes while dying. Telling him he didn't run this time while Dustin pleaded with him to stay with him, and now Steve was left with a weird sensation in his belly watching as Eddie was taken away on a stretcher. None of them had control over what was happening now, none of them knew the faith of their friend and it scared them all to death.
As they all say there and cried Robin spoke up first, looking at Steve while she spoke with a tear stained face and a bruised neck.
"You know he didn't even hesitate when ever you were pulled under.." a sob ripped threw her mouth as she spoke. She buried her head into Steve's neck and Steve held her tightly. "He just... he just jumped in after you Steve. He didn't even think twice. He didn't even think twice and I didn't think to stop him and..." another sob ripped threw Robin. She wasn't use to the death and sarrow the upside down brings. She had only been once and it hadn't been nearly as intense as this. Watching someone die was all to much for her.
Nancy grabbed Robins hand that was snaked behind Steve's back and squeezed it hard. "It's not your fault Robin. You couldn't have stopped him. We were all scared and I was also in that boat with you. As soon as he went in you scream for him to stop and grabbed my hand telling me to jump with you. You didn't think twice either. You were brave.. you went after him. That's all you could do Robin.." Nancy's voice was shaking as she spoke. Steve looked up and put his forehead to hers. They were both crying. It just didn't seem real. Everything happened to fast. Dustin shifted to move out of the pile of friends as he stood up.
"No. I should have known better the to let him go. I should have stopped him. None of this would be happening if I hadn't said anything. I could have just told you and Nancy. We could have found el and Mike and we could have.." Dustin sobbed loudly and Nancy went to hug him. Steve sighed and stood, lifting robin with him. "By then things would have been so much worse. You did the right thing. Hey. Hey look at me." Steve stepped towards Dustin with Robin still tucked tightly under his arm. Steve reached out and grabbed dustins chin, making him look at him.
"It's not your fault. It's no ones fault. He will be fine. We just gotta be positive okay..." Steve's voice was shaky. He was starting to feel woozy. Dustin hugged him tightly. Steve hissed silently, the hounds under eddies vest were still tender. Dustin looked up and saw Steve's pained face. He looked back down and stepped away grabbing Nancy's arm and pointing towards Steve.
"Oh my god, Steve you're hurt. Oh my god. Hey HEY! We need a doctor over now." Dustin screamed as Robin and Nancy grabbed Steve under his arms and lead him further into the hospital.
"I'm fine. I'm okay. I'll be fine. Let's just worry about Eddie..." Dustin turned to face Steve now. His eyes were red and a look of malice was shot Steve's way.
"NO! I WILL NOT LOSE YOU TO GODDAMN IT. WE NEED A FUCKING DOCTOR!" Robin and Nancy glanced at Dustin and Steve and nodded in agreement. Steve just nodded, shock was prevalent on his face now. He didn't even try and fight them as they took him back. Dustin smiled as a sob ripped threw his throat seeing another friend being wheeled to the back. It was all to much for them. Robin and Nancy huffed Dustin tightly as they watch with tear filled eyes as Steve was being wheeled away. Steve smiled sadly and laid his head down. Tears were falling down the side of his face as he watch the doctors and nurses freaking out as they wheeled him off to an operating room. "God bless what the hell happened to you guys?!" A nurse said as she glanced at Steve. He didn't reply. His mind was else where. Thinking of something only him and Eddie knew about. Something that has happened between them right before things got bad.
(Flash back to the upside down)
Steve was standing next to Eddie and Dustin, watching as Eddie readied to play his guitar. He had a nervous look on his face. He played with the bulky silver ring on his middle finger. Dustin ran to Robin and Nancy and Steve out a comforting hand on eddies shoulder."It's okay man. You just play and as soon as Dustin tell you, you get the fuck outta there. Don't be a hero."
Eddie smiled at Steve. "Do I look like a hero to you?"
Steve laughed and looked over to Dustin and Robin. He sighed and looked back at Eddie. His breath caught when he saw Eddie walking towards him.
Eddie brought his hand to the back of Steve's head. "In case we don't make it out of here Harrington." He placed a tender kiss on Steve's lips, pressing his body against Steve's.
Before Steve could register what happened Eddie had ran past him. He stood there shocked.
"Steve come on! Let's go! Eddies about to start!"
(End of flash back)
"Hey. Hey HEY! Stay with me kid you hear me? Stay with me?!" Steve turned and looked where the voice was coming from and saw Eddie. The doctors were trying to get him stable and Steve felt another pang in his chest.
They were rushing around him, cutting his clothes and hooking him up to several machines. Steve's heart wretched. He wanted to badly to help, but he couldn't. He moved to face towards Eddie, when a nurse out her hand in his chest. "Lay down son. You've lost a lot of blood. I don't even know how you're still awake at this point." She raised eddies vest and looked at the wounds, her face went white and she called for a doctor. "Okay we're going to have to act fast, he has internal bleed. HEY I NEED A DOCTOR OVER HERE. HES BLEEDING INTERNALLY AND FAST!" Steve felt his vision go blurry as they put a mask over his face. His eyes were fluttering shut as he looked over at Eddie. They were trying like hell to revive him. A single tear slipped down Steve's face as he watched, his vision fading to black as he muttered out one last word before he was unconscious.
"Eddie..."
