The next morning I could fell Soda hugging me from behind. I could smell the aroma of the eggs. I rolled over to see that Soda was actually asleep. I kissed his forehead to see if I could wake him up. I put my hand on his cheek. Even though he was in a deep sleep, he could tell I was holding him. He smiled the brightest smile the first day I met him. I smiled and pressed my lips against his. When I pulled away his eyes tried open. It seemed really groggy. "Good morning," he said. I stroked his hair back.

"Come on. You need to help me get up," I whispered. He groaned. I looked at him with a straight face. He just realized what happened. "I was joking," he reassured me. As he got up, he took his shirt off and went to the other side of the bed. "Are you trying to show off your abs?" I asked. "I have to take a shower. I think you should do the same," h smiled. Instead of helping me up, he picked me up bridal style and carried me to the kitchen.

I arrived to see that Ponyboy was making breakfast. "I will be back," Soda said. He kissed me. "Ew. When did you too become a thing?" Ponyboy said in discussion. I heard a familiar voice and the door open. Two-bit came in a spun Ponyboy around so many times, it made me dizzy. The eggs went flying everywhere. Steve and Two-bit played with hot potato with Ponyboy for a few minutes. I just sat there and laughed. We all started to talk about the mourning paper. It was a picture of Ponyboy, Sodapop, Darry, and me standing out front of the hospital. The paper didn't really talk about what happened. They mostly talked about Ponyboy and Soda's living situation and how Darry was taking care of them. It also talked about how Soda and I fell in love with the mix of all of it. That was my favorite part. It also said that, "Sodapop Curtis fell in love with the pretty girl, Coco Hutson, the first time they saw each other." Some of them asked Soda for an interview about our relationship but not me. It seemed kind of sexist to me. But I didn't mind. After Soda came out of the bathroom with a dripping towel, I got in and tried to shower before work. I smelled horrible. I couldn't stay like that for much longer. When I was dressed everyone was talking. Mostly about Dally and Johnny. But then when they realized I came out they quieted down and looked at me.

"What?" I asked them. Soda went up and whispered in my ear, "You don't have to answer anything." I looked at him confused. Two-bit jumped off the counter and put his arm around me. "So, what was the burning church like?" He asked. I was silent for a bit. "Hot..." I answered. "That was what Ponyboy said," Two-bit replied. "We need another answer," Steve said. Steve came on the other side of me. I started to feel claustrophobic a little. It was just a bit over welling. Sodapop grabbed my hand and pulled out of the cluster. "Come on guys. Give Coco some space," Soda told them. He sat me down and stuffed some chocolate cake in my mouth. The chocolate, goowy, goodness seemed to calm me down. After a while, Darry, Sodapop, Steve, and I had to get to work. We decided to drop off Darry first because we wanted to take the car to go visit Johnny on our break. I mean we didn't really give him a choice. Plus it's not like he could have said no. It was Johnny.

When we headed over to work our boss was at the front. He looked surprised to see me. "Coco. Sodapop told me what happened. I didn't expect you to come back to work so soon," he said. I took a deep breath. I could feel Soda's warm hand interlock with mine. "Well I can't miss too much work," I replied. "Well because of your statute, you can work at the counter. We haven't been getting many bikes recently," the boss said. I nodded. When we walked away, Soda pulled me behind the counter. "I don't do much but, it's going to be way more fun with you," he smiled. He kissed me on the cheek. I started to turn red. "Oh calm down love birds," Steve said. I laughed. "Your just jealous you can't work with Evie," I teased. "Oh shut up," he said. Soda chuckled. Steve walked and Soda sat behind me. He started to play with my hair. I didn't really mind. I grabbed one of the newspapers we had and I read it aloud. Soda kept on laughing about how the paper said Dally was a 'hero'. I couldn't help but to smile.

After a while I heard the doorbell ring. When I looked over it a group of Socs. "Sodapop..." I whispered. He stopped playing with my hair. When the Socs approached the counters, I grabbed onto Soda's arm. Soda put his hand on mine and held me close. One of the Socs put a candy bar on the counter. "Relax the rumble is tonight. We arn't going to hurt you," he said. I sat up. I looked at him with a blank face and said, "Is the candy bar all?" They nodded and paid. After they left it was like a weight was dropped on my shoulders. "You arn't going to fight tonight," Soda said. I looked at him. "Are you crazy? Two of your people are in the hospital. You need me," I said. He put his hand on my cheek. "Coco... to be totally honest I don't want you getting hurt," he admitted. I started to feel guilty. "Soda... if I did get severely injured, which I won't... you would be there," I said. Sodapop sighed. "Fine..." he replied. I smiled and kissed him. "Thank you," I said. He smiled. I hugged him so tight. "Hey relax. You might have a busted arm but you can still hug tight," he said. I let go. After awhile, we realized it was our lunch time.

"Hey Coco, are you ready?" Soda asked. I sighed. "Yea... it's just hard to think we have to see him in such a bad statute," I said. Soda put his arm around me. "I know but... it's important that he knows we can still be there for him," Soda responded. I started to feel a surge of guilt. "Hey, what's wrong?" Soda asked. When I looked at him I could see he started to feel bad. I sighed. "It's just... I don't know how to explain it. It should have been me..." I admitted. Soda looked at me in shock. "Coco... don't say that. What happened was a freak accident. What happened no one should have to go through. Not even you or Johnny," Soda explained. "Now come on. I think Johnny needs some cheering up."
