When the Socs started to walk towards us, most of them were wearing their school letterman jackets. It seemed like they were just getting ready to go to school or a charity event. I let go of Soda's hand to take off my leather jacket. It would have messed up my swing anyways. I handed it off to one of the Shepherds and he set it off to the side. Right when he took the jacket, I went back to holding Soda's hand in comfort. One of the Socs rose from the rest. After he set down the ground rules, everything was silent. Darry rose from our group, standing face to face with the other Soc. We were waiting for who was going to swing first. Darry said he could take on anyone and it didn't matter who it was. One of the other Socs arose from the crowd. "Hello Darrel," the Soc said. "Hello Paul," Darry said. His eyes started to turn ice cold.
Like a realization struck him. It didn't really matter who or why he felt that way but all that mattered was this rumble. This fight. Darry and Paul started to walk around in a circle. The anticipation filled the lot. We couldn't tell who was going to throw the first punch. But right when it seemed like Darry was going to do it. There was some russing in the bushes. I quickly let go of Soda's hand, knowing we would soon fight. Darry looked over to see what the noise was, then it happened. Bam! The first punch. right when Darry looked away, Paul threw the first punch. It was on. from this point forward,no one was going to hold back. We all knew this right here, right now going to be life or death. I admediatly charged for the nearest Soc. Without a single thought, i punched him right in the face. When he turned around to punch back, his face explained everything he was thing. 'I was just punched by a girl?!'. I took some sleachire in knowing I could punch a Soc and him thinking twice about punching back. While he was stund, I managed punch him again but a lot harder this time. But when he looked back, he didn't think twice. He swung a good left hook punch. When his fist meat my face, a small rush of pain entered. When I looked back up him, he had a wide grin. Without a second thought, I kicked him to the ground. Seeing dirt on is outfit made me so happy. That for once were not the only ones rolling around i the dirt. I went on top of him and got in a few good swings.
Next thing I knew, I was being pulled off my one of the other Socs. I started to scream. I elbowed him and he hunched over. He let go of me and I kicked him right where the sun don't shine. Than I heard a faint voice that said, "COCO! LOOK OUT!" I quickly turned arouns to see the Soc I pinned down was back up agian. In one fail swoop. I was on the ground. I could feel a cold stream coming down my face. Blood. Blood rushing down the left side of my face. I looked back at the Soc. It seemed like he was going for another swing. I tried to stand up but my lungs were giving out. Crap. One if the Socs broke my ribs. Than I heard some screaming from behind the Soc. When he turned around he was admediatly was punched to the ground. As I looked up, I saw that it was Sodapop. He held out his hand and I took it to stand up. He pulled me in close. "I know you shouldn't have come," he said, whipping the blood off my face. "Oh come on Sodapop you would want me to miss all this fun?" I asked.
He smiled that perfect smile he has. "Your smiling at a time like this?" "Because even in the mid of a rumble you still look so good," he commented. I looked slitly looked behind Soda I could see a Soc was charging for us. "Soda look out!" I screamed pushing him out if the way. Just in time, I punching the soc out of sight. When I looked back at Sodapop, it looked like another Soc was trying to do the same thing.
I looked into his eyes and just like deja vu, it started to pour all over the park. Some of the rain helped the blood go away, but it made the ground more slippery to fight. We both knew we had to keep fighting even if the conditions were not that ideal. We both nodded and went our ways. I looked over at one of the Shepherd boys. For a second I wanted to laugh because Tim was getting beaten up by a Soc almost half his size. I quickly ran over to him and put the Soc in a choke hold. With the mud on the ground, he fell pretty easily. When I looked up at Tim, he was slicking his hair back like he was dirty and he actually did something.
"What the hell Tim!? I thought you were great at rumbles," I yelled. "Well I am darling and so many other things," he said, trying to flirt. I walked up close to him face to face. "You have a lot of nerve saying that," I told him. He just kept his great big old smirk. I just lost it. with all my rage, I slapped old Tim Sheperd across the face. Instead of staying to see his reaction, I walked off to fight another Soc. When I saw a lone Soc, ran right up to him. I could see a cut from his cheek gushing out blood. For a second, I paused. But I didn't know who caust me. The Soc suddenly pounced on me. It goes to show even the greatest of fighters could lose once in a while. He pinned me to the ground and started to punch me every way. The ribs, all over my face, nose, eyes, and cheeks. Even though my vision was going blurry from the side I could see that the Soc turned around and got punched. When I blinked, I could see
Sodapop grabbed my hands and pulled me up, while someone was behind me trying to lift me up. I put my hand on my head. "What... happened?" I asked them. "That Soc was beating to a pulp," Sodapop said, examining my face. "Yea but don't worry," Two-bit said, from behind me. "Sodapop got him good for you." I looked around and saw that all the Socs were running away. They were getting in their fast slick cars and driving away. I looked around to see all the greaser left standing. Tim's nose was broken, some of the Brumbly boys were pretty banged up too The leader was yelling at one of their own for how knows what, I should see Steve and Ponyboy laying down on the floor not to far apart from each other and it looked like me mostly was punched in the ribs. When vision came back to the people close to me,half of Two-bit's face was covered in blood. Darry had a good shiner. It was still raining so it was hard to tell who had what injuries. But then Two-bit broke the silence. "They're running!" he shouted. "We won," Darry followed. "We beat the Socs."
As everyone started to cheer out of the corner of my eye, I could see Dally and Ponyboy running off. When did Dally get here? I quickly walked over to them before they completely fled the scene. "Hey what are you guys doing?" I asked. "We're gonna see Johnny... he's bad," Dally said. I could see it was almost the end in his eyes. It felt like my heart started to drop. "Tell him I say goodbye. Okay?" I told him. He nodded. As they walked away I could feel a presents behind me. No surprise it was Sodapop. "Hey I can't find Ponyboy. So we're all going to head home, okay?" I nodded. We intertwined our fingers together and started to talk home with Darry, Steve, and Two-bit.
