three days have passed since diego and i got "chosen" to be the two who go on the trip to california.

realizing this, we're gonna be on a plane together, for a good three hours.

i sat at the ticket counter as diego was getting our bags weighed and checked. i tapped my nails against the counter as i watched diego talk to the man, like he was negotiating.

what is he talking about?

is he pulling his wallet out? for what?

i watched intently as diego handed the man some money before he turned to me, adjusting his backpack on his shoulders. "ready to go?" he asked, handing me the boarding passes.

"yea, what was that about though. everything alright?"

"yea, no worries." he said," but, we've gotta get through security, we board in an hour."

i looked at my watch and realized he was right. we both started walking to the direction of security before we began to slip our shoes off and place our belongings in the silver tubs.

diego went first, placing his hands above his head as he went through the metal detector.

"next." the woman said, motioning to me.

i did the same, holding my hands above my head before i waited to be cleared through. the man motioned me to walk through as i was cleared.

diego slipped his shoes back on before he grabbed my shoes and bag as well. i walked over to him, and retrieved my belongings, thanking him as he softly smiled.

"so, it's gate 7c." he added," we have time to grab a coffee if you'd like one."

"that would be nice." i said in response.

we walked silently to the starbucks that was 500'feet from our gate. i browsed the menu as my eyes set on a strawberry refresher.

diego looked at me for a nod that i was ready to order.

"i've got it, you order for yourself." i said," you've been paying too much, let me use my money."

"i wasn't asking for you to pay, i was asking what drink you chose."

"oh, my apologies. i was looking at a strawberry refresher."

"you fell right for it too." he turned around the face the cashier before he placed his order, then mine.

"you mothe-"

"just enjoy your drink alright." he said," you deserve a few days to yourself.. just worrying about you."

i don't want you to be my saving grace. i just want you to be my partner.

"i'm not being your saving grace. i'm just being a good partner." he said," your best interest is what i have in mind." he said, handing me my drink.

"i never said you were acting like my saving grace."

"your face said otherwise, niara." he added, before he turned and started walking to the gate.

part of me wanted to kick him in the back of his knees and watch him fold forward, so i could laugh at him falling.

but another part of me wanted to just, accept the fact he's attempting to keep me happy.

but i didn't like either options, so i decided to just shut up about it, and get excited for the first class plane ride i was about to be treated with.

i sat next to him, as we awaited for the plane to start boarding. and man, was i bored.
