3rd Person POV
Brooklyn wakes with a silent gasp, her eyes springing open as her lungs take in breath. The room is dark. Pitch black. Normally that would not have bothered her but she just got back from an alien planet where the forests...the forests were a shuddering thought. Splitting up with Sara in the dark had done a number on her
Brooklyn turns to the side in her bed on the waverider. Jax's sleeping face is next to her. He looks peaceful. Brooklyn's finger lightly traces down his jawline
'Peaceful...' She thinks, her finger barely touching his skin. She did not want to wake him up, just wanted to know that he was really there, that she was really back on Earth
Brooklyn slowly scoots out of the bed, laying the blanket back over Jax, and she makes her way over to the small bed in the corner where her three-year-old daughter is sleeping
Brooklyn kneels down slowly and quietly, looking at her sleeping daughter. She softly brushes a few strands of hair away from Maddie's face. 'Peaceful...' She thinks once again
Brooklyn stands up from the floor and looks around the dark room. Flashes of the dark forest on the alien planet come back to her. Flashes of being alone come back to her. Flashes of almost dying, of killing, of--
And it's too much. It's way too much for her right now. That's what Brooklyn was missing right now: a sense of peace. There was no peace in her mind, no peace within her body. She had experienced something out of this world. Literally
And then, without another moment to waste, Brooklyn leaves the room...

Sara walks through the halls of the waverider late at night. So late that it was technically morning. But everyone else was asleep, her teammates were asleep. Her fiancé was asleep. She smiles happily at the last thought
But something causes her smile to drop. She hears a noise in the gym of the waverider. And if anyone was going to be at the gym in this ridiculous hour of night, it was going to be one of two people: either herself or Brooklyn Cooper
Sara makes her way over to the gym before stopping in the doorway. There in front of her was Brooklyn Cooper (to no surprise) but what was surprising was what she was doing. Brooklyn was simply nocking an arrow and shooting at a target. Over and over and over again
"How'd you find me?" Brooklyn questions without even turning around. She knew who it was -- she heard Sara's footsteps -- and she's the only other person who would be awake at this hour of night
"I figured you'd be in here." Sara says from her spot. Then, she pushes off the wall and walks over to stand next to Brooklyn as the girl nocks another arrow. "But I didn't think you'd be training on something so...basic."
Brooklyn releases her hold on the arrow and it is shot into the target in front of her. "Life has been....crazy recently." Brooklyn tells Sara
"I don't think crazy even begins to describe what we went through." Sara says, watching as Brooklyn nocks another arrow and shoots at the target again. "How are you holding up?" She asks
"I'm..." Brooklyn starts, shooting another arrow. "...managing."
"It's okay if you're not." Sara tells her. "It is okay." She repeats. Brooklyn is silent, nocking another arrow and shooting. Nocking another arrow and shooting. And nocking another arrow and shooting. "So do you want to tell me why you're training a skill so basic that you could do it in your sleep?"
"That's exactly why I'm doing it." Brooklyn says, shooting another arrow. She sighs before looking over and Sara and dropping her bow to her side. She takes a deep breath with tears pricking her eyes. "This..." She says, gesturing to the bow and the arrows and the target. "...this is normal. I just...I feel like I need life to be normal for a little while." She tells Sara
"Do you want me to take you home?" Sara asks and Brooklyn is silent. "Just say the word and we will leave right now."
"No." Brooklyn says. "No, I...I don't wanna leave. This is where I belong. And it's a crazy crazy life. But I've seen things I would rather forget." She trails off in a whisper
"Is that why you're avoiding my eyes?" Sara asks, touching her hand to Brooklyn's chin and guiding her gaze to look into Sara's eyes. Brooklyn's eyes dart around. "Brooke." Sara whispers and Brooklyn finally lands on Sara's eyes. "I'm alive. I'm okay."
Brooklyn's eyes well up with tears fast. "I saw your dead body." Brooklyn says, her voice choked. "I have visions and nightmares about it. I can't get it out of my head."
"I am alive." Sara repeats to Brooklyn. "Do you hear me? I am okay. I'm...well, I'm a little different now but I'm here. And so are you. We made it."
"How are you not messed up like me?" Brooklyn's voice cracks on her question
"You are not messed up." Sara tells Brooklyn. "Get that out of your head right now. Did you hear me? You are not messed up." She repeats and Brooklyn gives her a small nod. "What we experienced...it was a lot. And it's going to take a lot to get us back to where we want to be. But do you know what's going to help us get there?" Brooklyn stares into Sara's eyes. "Our family. They're going to help us. We are not alone. We have each other."
"Promise?" Brooklyn whispers through tears
"Hell yeah, I promise." Sara says. "Because why?"
"Because we don't split up." Brooklyn answers Sara's question. "Ever. We do things together and we get to the other side."
"Exactly." Sara says with a smile and tears in her eyes. "Exactly..." She whispers as she hugs Brooklyn tightly
And Brooklyn hugs back just as tight. Once again, the girls make their promise to always stick together, to get through things together. And that gives Brooklyn a sense of peace...
