JAELIN AND FINNEY quietly made their way up the staircase. once they got to the top, finney turned the doorknob, opening the door connecting the basement stairs to the rest of the house.

their next view almost made jaelin want to throw up. she covered her mouth with her hand, seeing the grabber fast asleep on a chair with his mask, his jacket zipper undone and a belt in his hand.

they waited for a couple seconds to make sure if he was actually asleep. once they knew he was sound asleep, the two stepped forward as silently as they could.

they ventured past him, towards the door where the combination lock was. jaelin was a bit behind him, checking the place out. she scanned the kitchen area, trying to find something she could defend themselves with.

it wasn't until her eyes landed on a familiar board filled with maps and strings, that she froze in place. she knew who that board belonged to, how could she not?

it all started coming back to her now. she remembered max's words, "all he has is sprite and a shit ton of eggs, weird right?"

it all made sense. the food. the construction. the board. max had to be his brother. she was sure of it. she just hoped max would come to his senses and discover they were down in his brother's basement.

jaelin composed herself and focused on finding a makeshift weapon to use. her eyes suddenly caught sight of an unused frying pan on the stove. she smiled slightly before grabbing it, this will do.

she caught up to finney, standing behind him. she faced the grabber and watched him carefully, clutching the frying pan in her hands.

the air was so tense that jaelin felt like she couldn't even breath. she heard finney trying to spin the numbers and try to take off the lock for the second time, but there was no luck yet.

third times the charm, c'mon finn.

once jaelin heard the final clicks and the sound of the lock being undone, she turned around and both finney and her dashed out. jaelin dropped the frying pan by accident mid-way, but it wasn't like she could keep it for long. plus, the extra weight was holding her down and aching her hands.

"go go go!" jaelin patted his back as the two ran like their lives depended on it. because it did.

the only problem was the fact that the dog started barking as soon as they ran out, which definitely would've awoken the grabber.

her and finney ran as fast as they could, appreciating the outside air from the stuffy basement at the same time. they turned the corner, being alarmed when they heard the sounds of tires screeching.

"help! help us!" finney yelled as loud as he could, hoping someone would wake up and see them.

jaelin turned her head around for a split second, seeing his black van following them. "oh shit he's following us!" she yelled, "quick, finn, in between the houses!"

she went and sprinted towards the middle of two random houses, hiding around the corner, breathing heavily. she was about to turn around and make sure finney was okay, but she was met with the sounds of him yelling instead.

"help! the grabber-"

jaelin's eyes widened when she didn't see finney next to her. she peered her head around the corner and gasped when she saw the grabber tackle finney to the ground near a couple bushes so they were unseen.

shit! jaelin cursed finney for not following her. she panicked, not knowing what to do.

jaelin saw some front porch lights turn on, holding onto the last bit of hope that someone would come outside and help them.

though, she spoke too soon. they all turned off. one, by one. no one was going to save them.

she narrowed her eyes and noticed the grabber holding a knife against finney's neck. she got abrupt flashbacks to when he did that to..to..

she didn't want to remember such traumatic things.

"jaelin~" the grabber called out, "come out, come out, wherever you are.." he then looked towards finney, then back up, "or else i'll gut your friend right here, right now."

she saw finney make eye contact with her since he knew where she ran off to. unfortunately, the grabber followed his eye line, and got a swift view of jaelin before she turned around and put her back up against the house wall.

the grabber giggled, "time's ticking, jaelin."

jaelin fiddled with her necklace, she had three options:

one, go around the house and sneak attack the grabber from behind and flee with finney this time. however, travelling around the house would take time. and who knows, she could come back to her best friend already dead.

two, run away and get help. this was the option she was least likely to do, because it meant leaving finney behind in the grabber's possession. she didn't have the heart to leave him like that.

and then the third option. well, let's just say she chose this option instead.

she sighed and walked out of the shadows and left the safety of the corner. she surrendered herself and started walking towards the two. finney's eyes widened as the grabber chuckled lowly, "today's your lucky day."

jaelin made eye contact with him, silently telling him that it was okay and that she would never leave him like that. finney couldn't wrap his head around how lucky he was to have her right now. normally, anyone else, other than gwen and jaelin, would've probably left him to die.

as soon as jaelin reached them, the grabber then got up, "nighty night, naughty boy." he then punched finney harshly, knocking him unconscious.

"finney!-" she got cut off when she felt the grabber hold her in a chokehold and retrieve a rag from his pocket. she turned her head away as much as she could before the grabber had enough and held her face still, bringing the rag up to her nose.

her kicking and struggles against him soon faltered, having no choice but to breath in the chemical. her vision was filled with colourful particles and everything went blurry. she slowly fell limb, slipping away from consciousness.

"i never liked your kind anyway." was the last thing she heard before darkness engulfed her.
