Countdown

Three long years of working hard to become a cardiovascular surgeon, leaving me with only three more years to go.

I sat by myself in the library to go over my notes for my upcoming final exams, instead of focusing on the notes all I could think about is how weird my friends have been acting today. Suddenly talking about taking a trip, for what? I don't have time for a trip when I'm perfectly fine here studying. I leaned back in the chair to glance down at one of many pages of notes, I let out a sigh then began.

Kate:"Hey!"

I closed my eyes then opened them to see Kate sitting across from me with a smile on her face,

Me:"Hey Kate."
Kate:"So we've talked it over and you clearly need a break with all this studying."
Me:"I'm fine Kate, I don't have time for a trip, sorry."
Kate:"Bullshit Kayleigh, clearly you haven't been listening. You study too much and it's obviously draining you so why not come with us? It's not til after school let's out."

I crossed my arms as my eyebrow rose,

Me:"For how long? And your sure it's during our summer break?"
Kate:"Yes Kayleigh and for three weeks, camping and hiking out and Wyoming."
Me:"So your telling me, we're taking a trip miles away from home? What if something happens huh?"

Kate smiled and shrugged,

Kate:"That's why we have you, your a doctor."
Me:"Correction for the hundredth time, surgeon, who operates on hearts thank you."
Kate:"Who cares that's still a doctor Kayleigh."
Me:"No ma'am, two different things. And for the trip? I'll think about it."
Kate:"Great! See you back at the room!"

As Kate stood up the bell rang, I quickly grabbed my things and hurried towards the theater. Why do they want to go to Wyoming? What's so special there that they can't enjoy here in Seattle? I shook my head as I walked through the theater doors seeing Jeffrey sitting up on the stage with a smile.

Jeffrey:"Your late."-he called-

I smiled as I walked down to the stage, I sat my bag down on the stage so Jeffrey stood up and held out his hands which I placed mine in his then he pulled me up.

Jeffrey:"You okay?"
Me:"I'm fine why?"
Jeffrey:"Your normally early and you look like something is bothering you."
Me:"Not really just-"

I sighed and sat down so Jeffrey sat down in front of me with a soft smile,

Jeffrey:"Just what?"
Me:"The guys have been acting weird and I finally found out why. They want to take a trip to Wyoming to go camping and hiking."

Jeffrey chuckled then looked at me,

Jeffrey:"I know, they spoke to me about it, by the looks of it you don't want to go?"
Me:"I don't know, it's far away from home and a trip like that you never know what could go wrong."
Jeffrey:"Kayleigh."

My eyes looked to his as his hand caressed my cheek,

Jeffrey:"Stop worrying so much and thinking about the what if's is just crazy. But I understand, what did you tell Kate since I know you didn't say no to her."
Me:"You're right I didn't, just told her I'd think about it."
Jeffrey:"If I go will that get you to go as well?"
Me:"I don't know."
Jeffrey:"Come on it'll be fun and besides you'll need this before you become a surgeon, when that happens you can forget about free time."
Me:"I'll think about it, now help me study please."
Jeffrey:"Oh alright."

6pm..

Jeffrey laughed before finishing his french fries,

Jake:"Seriously I mean come on Kayleigh, thus trip will be incredible. You always said it would be nice to see from a mountain."
Me:"Yes I did say that but I don't know."
Josh:"Please Kayleigh? Chelsea will be coming with us."
Me:"Look I said I'll think about it so I am, I'll let you know ahead of time if I'm going or not. Okay?"
Jeffrey:"Alright guys back off."

I took a drink then looked at Jake,

Me:"Why Wyoming?"
Jake:"I've always wanted to visit, Josh and I have some family out there that we haven't seen in years so I figured we could go see them then go camping and hiking."
Me:"I see."
Josh:"Come on clearly her answer is no, so looks like Jeffrey is the third wheel."-he teased-
Jeffrey:"Fine with me."
Kate:"Kayleigh can't go three weeks without you so we'll see you when we get back."
Jeffrey:"The fuck your not, I'm going dammit."-he chuckled-
Me:"Okay fine. I'll go."
Kate:"Told you."
Me:"Shut the fuck up Kate."
Jeffrey:"Did she strike a nerve Kayleigh?"-he smirked-
Me:"No."
Jeffrey:"I think she did."

Jeffrey smiled while picking up a french fry from my plate to tap it on my nose then ate it,

Me:"That was gross."
Jeffrey:"I've ate worse."
Jake:"That's just sick man."-he laughed-
Jeffrey:"Probably."

I rolled my eyes then watched Jeffrey stand up,

Jeffrey:"I'll go pay then I can take you home."
Me:"Okay."

With a smile he walked away,

Kate:"Your parents still see it weird your dating your tutor?"
Me:"Kinda, their a little bit more used to it now."
Kate:"What about you?"
Me:"Are you asking if I find it weird? No I do not."
Kate:"Figured I would ask."
Me:"Odd but okay."
Jeffrey:"Ready Kayleigh?"
Me:"See you guys tomorrow."
Kate:"Remember her house Jeffrey."

Jeffrey smirked then shrugged,

Jeffrey:"We'll see."
