Later that night
It took awhile to get to the new house. Driving to the airport, the flight, and then finally arriving at the house. Marcy was asleep for most of it though, so it was all mostly a blur. The Wus were able to bring most of their belongings on the plane with them, but the larger things would be shipped to them soon. Marcy had everything she cared about with her already though, so it didn't make any difference to her.
As she stepped into the house, carrying one of the boxes filled with her stuff, she looked around with tired eyes. It seemed nice.
"So where is my room?" She asked her parents, her voice rasping with sleepiness.
"You don't even want to look around first?" Mrs. Wu asked with a small chuckle, but Marcy wasn't laughing. "Oh, come on, dear. I know you miss your friends, but at least give this place a chan-"
"No, Mom, it's not that. The house is nice. I just really don't feel good right now is all, and I want to lay down."
Mrs. Wu frowned. "The migraine still?"
"Yeah," Marcy answered. "It's gone away for the most part, but it still hurts a little."
"I'm sorry, Marcy..." Mrs. Wu sighed, wrapping a comforting arm around her daughter. "We'll take you to see a doctor about this soon. Hopefully this doctor will actually know what they're doing, because it seems as though since seeing your last doctor these migraines have only gotten worse." She pointed out. "We'll also get you a new therapist. For now, just get some rest, okay? And let me know if you need anything."
"Okay. Thanks, Mom." She replied with a small smile. It was weird how much more her parents cared about her mental health now than they did before, but she wasn't complaining; it was nice to know that they cared.
Mrs. Wu led Marcy to her new bedroom. As she turned on the light, she noticed that it was much larger than her old bedroom, which made it feel emptier.
"What do you think?" Mrs. Wu asked.
"It's... big," was all Marcy could say at first. "but I like it. Thanks, Mom."
"I'm glad to hear that," Mrs. Wu smiled. "Well, why don't you go get settled in and start unpacking your things? I'll be in the kitchen making dinner if you need anything." With that, Marcy's mother left the room, shutting the door behind her.
Marcy let go of a sigh as she placed the box she was carrying down only to collapse onto her new bed, burying her face in the new pillows. She didn't even notice her father bringing the rest of her stuff into the room a few minutes later. She was sure she would've fallen asleep right then and there if it wasn't for the sound of her phone ringing, which perked her up, especially when she saw who was calling her: Sasha!! Her eyes lighting up, Marcy answered the call immediately.
"Sasha! Hi!" She smiled.
"Mar-Mar! Hey, girl!" The blonde replied. She was lying on her stomach, on what appeared to be Anne's bed. Sasha tilted the phone up slightly to reveal the other girl, who was sitting behind her, braiding her hair. "Hey, Marcy!" Anne added with a grin.
"Anne!" Marcy exclaimed, her smile growing. Seeing her girls again, even if it was just through a screen, made her forget about all her pain and sadness for awhile. "What are you two up to?"
"Oh, we're having a sleepover at Anne's 'cause neither of us wanted to be alone after today!" Sasha replied with a smile. "And look, we're watching that movie you like, War of the Warlocks!" She turned her camera around to show the TV screen, and Marcy smiled widely at the sight of her favorite movie playing. Anne and Sasha never seemed to be interested in that movie before, so the fact that they were willingly watching it without her meant a lot to her.
"Enough about us, though; How are you doing, Marcy? How was the trip? And how's the new house?" Anne asked as she finished Sasha's hair, now lying beside her on the bed.
Marcy's smile weakened a little as she realized she didn't have much of an answer to those questions; she had slept for nearly the entire trip, and the second they arrived at the new house, she went straight to her room. Not wanting to worry her friends, Marcy replied with fake enthusiasm, "Oh, the new house is amazing! It's so much bigger than the old one. It's very empty right now, but I feel like once we've unpacked everything, it'll really start feeling like home." That was a lie, though, because with Anne and Sasha not here with her, the word "home" was pretty much meaningless. "And the trip was good! I slept for most of it, but it seemed to go pretty smoothly."
"That's good!" Anne answered. "Ugh, it's already so weird without you here, Marcy. Sasha and I don't know what to do with ourselves without your bouncy energy!"
Gasping dramatically, Sasha gave Anne a playful nudge. "Hey! We're having fun!" She chuckled. "But it definitely isn't the same without you, Mars."
Marcy's gaze softened as she admired her friends through the screen. All she wanted in this moment was to jump through her phone and be with them, but unfortunately that wasn't possible. Since Amphibia, they'd both changed; Sasha wore her hair down more often, and was overall just a kinder person, and Anne was noticeably a lot more confident than she was before. It made Marcy happy to see them so happy with themselves and each other.
"Yeah... it's super lonely without you guys here, too." She finally answered, smiling sadly. Sasha and Anne returned the melancholy smiles. Before anyone could say anything else though, Marcy's thoughts were disrupted by another sharp pain in her head. Why now?! Marcy closed her eyes tightly and let out a small, pained grunt, bringing a hand up to rub her forehead.
Sasha and Anne noticed. They shot worried glances at each other before Sasha asked, "Hey, what's wrong, Mars?"
"Oh! N-Nothing, I'm fine," Marcy quickly replied with a dismissive shake of her head. "Just a migraine is all; I've had one all day."
Sasha and Anne's eyes filled with sympathy as they looked at poor Marcy through the screen, disregarding her pain like it was nothing when it was clearly taking a toll on her. Marcy had been having these migraines ever since leaving Amphibia, and that was really concerning to Anne and Sasha, especially since neither of them had been suffering the same symptoms.
"Awe, Mar-Mar..." Anne frowned. "Are you sure you're okay? These migraines you've been having seem really painful."
Her friends' concern meant a lot to Marcy, but she didn't want them worrying about her, so she continued to dismiss the excruciating pain in her head. "Yes, I'm fine Anna-banana— I promise! It hurts, but I've had so many of these at this point that I'm kind of used to it to be honest." She let go of a humorless chuckle. "Besides, Mom says she's gonna take me to see a new doctor and therapist soon, so I'm sure I'll start feeling better in no time!"
At Marcy's reassurance Anne and Sasha smiled and nodded, although they couldn't help but still worry about their dark-haired friend. "Alright," Anne said underneath a small sigh of relief, "If you're sure."
"I'm sure." Marcy assured with a strained smile. "I should probably go though, dinners going to be ready any minute. We can talk later if that's okay with you guys?"
"Oh, yeah! That's fine!" Anne responded with a nod, followed by Sasha, "Yeah, just call us back whenever you want! We'll probably be up all night anyways."
With a small giggle, Marcy replied, "Okay! Bye-Bye! Love you guys!"
"We love you too!" The two on the other side of the screen answered in unison.
"Oh and enjoy the movie, it'sreallygood okay byeeeee!" Marcy then ended the call. Her smile immediately fell as her girls' faces disappeared from her screen, and if she was being honest it was sort of a relief to finally let her tired lips rest from holding up that fake grin. She loved Anne and Sasha, of course she did, and she loved talking to them, but how could she truly be happy in a time like this? She was what felt like a million miles away from her two favorite people in the entire world, and this stupid headache wouldn't go away! The more she thought about it the worse it got, quickly evolving into a terrible, throbbing pain like before. With a groan, Marcy stood up and dragged herself out of her bedroom with a hand on her head, tightly gripping her dark hair. Beginning to feel lightheaded, she stumbled over her feet a few times as she searched for the bathroom. It felt like the world was spinning around her, and her vision kept going in and out of focus. At this point, the pain in her head was completely and utterly agonizing. When she at last found the bathroom a little ways down the hall from her room, she immediately leaned over the sink and turned on the faucet. She waited for the water to get as cold as possible before splashing it on her face in hopes to help her feel a little more alive, but it unfortunately didn't do much; if anything, it made it worse, as now there was a burning sensation across her forehead. As she turned off the faucet, her gaze slowly found her reflection in the mirror, and what she saw staring back at her was truly horrifying.Three orange eyes wide open on her forehead, ablaze with pure evil.
