Marcy's eyes suddenly went wide as a sharp, piercing pain shot through her lower back.
She let out a shaky breath as she slowly looked over her shoulder, only to see Darcy glaring back at her as it twisted the dagger deeper.
This scene... it was so familiar. It was almost exactly like what happened when they brought Andrias the music box...
"MARCY!!" Her friends cried out as Darcy suddenly pulled the dagger out, causing Marcy to collapse to her knees. They immediately crowded around her, Sasha forcefully pushing Darcy out of the way to get to Marcy.
As Darcy was pushed back, it grumbled to itself in disappointment at its work. It had failed to stab Marcy in a critical spot, unfortunately, but surely it would still devitalize her. That would be enough, for now.
Marcy was losing blood fast, however, and her consciousness was fading in and out with it. Anne quickly pulled a sweater out of her backpack and pressed it up against her wound in an attempt to stop the bleeding, while Sasha and Anise supported their injured friend.
"Marcy, talk to me!" Anne desperately pleaded as tears welled up in her eyes. "Stay awake, please... you have to stay awake..."
As blood continued to gush out of her wound, Marcy's eyes fluttered, struggling to stay open. "Anne... I... I-I'm sorry... I'm so sorry..." Was all she managed to utter before her head drooped and her eyes closed.
Thinking that Marcy had passed out, Anne's panic increased. "Wh-What do we do?!" She sobbed. "Marcy, wake up, please!"
Anise and Sasha were in tears as well. Sniffling, the latter placed her hand on Marcy's chest to gather if she was still breathing. Her eyes soon widened at the feeling of her chest slowly rising and falling; Her breathing was slow, but she was still conscious.
"She's still breathing." Sasha said as she wiped her tears. "Anne, hold her and make sure her breathing doesn't stop. Anise and I will take care of that asshole."
With a small nod, Anne took Marcy into her arms. She propped her head so it was resting on her chest and she held her with one arm while keeping the pressure on her wound with the other. "Please, be careful," She told Sasha and Anise, "This can't happen to you too..."
"Oh, I'll make sure it doesn't." The blonde affirmed as she stood up, grabbing her weapon as she did so. With fury in her eyes, she began heading toward Darcy, who was waiting for them quite a distance away. Anise sprang up to follow her, but before they did, they looked down at Marcy and Anne. "We'll avenge her, Anne. I promise."
As Anise left to catch up with Sasha, Anne held Marcy close as tears cascaded down her cheeks. She whispered comforting words to her as she rubbed her back, checking every few seconds to make sure she was still breathing. In this moment, everything she had previously been upset about had fled her mind. She didn't care that Marcy lied to her again. She didn't care that Marcy put her in danger again. And she didn't care that their fun week to celebrate Marcy's birthday had been ruined.
All she wanted was for her Marcy to be okay.

...

As Sasha ran at Darcy, she readied her weapon to strike. Her eyes were as cold as ice, and her aggression was clearly displayed on her face.
But Darcy was prepared. As the blonde approached, its dagger suddenly extended into a fiery sword, and when Sasha swung, it blocked her hit with its own weapon.
Sasha pushed back with all her strength, but it was clear that Darcy had the advantage due to her injury. That didn't stop her from making her hatred for Darcy clear, though.
"You bitch! After all the damage you've already done, how dare you do that to Marcy! How dare you!"
Darcy snickered. It could feel Sasha's sword trembling against its own, which made it clear that she wouldn't be capable of defending herself for much longer. "We did what we had to do. Actually, we would expect you to understand."
"Me? Understand? Why the fuck would I understand? I'm not a sick monster like you!" Sasha barked in retaliation.
"Oh, but you used to be. Remember when you manipulated and betrayed Anne? Remember when you ignored Marcy and brushed aside all of her interests like they were nothing?" Darcy smirked. "Sounds pretty monstrous to us."
Sasha faltered for a moment. She hated being reminded of the person she used to be. She resented herself for how she used to treat Anne and Marcy, and ever since then she had been working to undo the damage that she'd done. Anne had said she could see how much she's changed, but being reminded of her old toxicity still felt like a stab in the gut.
"I-I'm not like that anymore! Anne and Marcy know that! I know that!" She argued as she continued pushing back against Darcy, but her grip was slipping fast.
Anise noticed that Sasha was struggling, and was ready to support her. Before Darcy could reply to the blonde, she swung her bat at the villainous being, hitting it directly on its side.
Grunting at the sudden impact, Darcy recoiled and lost its footing. This gave Sasha the chance to adjust her grip on her weapon, and she was prepared once Darcy recollected itself.
Darcy glowered as Sasha ran toward it, thrusting it's dagger forward as she approached. Sasha blocked the impact with her own weapon before swinging at Darcy once more, successfully slashing another one of its eyes.
"Ugh! Damn it!" Darcy shrieked as it closed its eyes once again, taking a few steps back. Anise used this moment to move up to Sasha's side, and the two stood with their backs touching to avoid meeting the same fate as Marcy, all while keeping their weapons up defensively.
As Darcy reopened its eyes, panic flickered on its face for a moment as it realized its vision was getting weaker and weaker with each eye that was taken out. The eyes that had been damaged had lost their orange glow, turning dull and colorless instead. Curling its lips back in a snarl, it glared at Sasha and Anise with burning resentment in its remaining eyes.
"Enough of this!" It roared as it rose its hand up in the air, conjuring up robotic arms from the ground. They forcefully grabbed Sasha and Anise before they could get away, digging their sharp claws into their skin.
Sasha and Anise writhed in the grip of the hands, but it was too tight. They were trapped.
"Bet you thought you were winning for a second there, huh?" Darcy snickered as it walked up to the struggling teenagers. "Like we said, we still have the upper hand. Literally!"
As Darcy laughed at its own joke, Sasha growled and squirmed in the grasp of the robotic digits. Its claws were digging into her injured arm, causing her an immense amount of pain. She looked over at Anise, who also seemed to be in a great amount of discomfort.
"Now that we've got you two right where we want you," Darcy grinned as its laughter died down, holding its dagger up in a position that indicated it was ready to stab. "Do you two have any last words?"
