As the two were walking to school, Anne noticed Sasha furrowing his brows at something on his phone. "Hey, what's up, Sash?" She questioned with a small tilt of her head.
Sasha immediately averted his eyes from his phone, gazing fondly at Anne instead. "Nothing, it's just... Marcy's acting kinda weird again."
"Oh, did she finally text you back?" Anne asked, to which Sasha nodded in reply. He showed Anne his phone, and watched as her eyes scanned over the screen. "Doesn't she just seem... off to you? She used to jump at every chance she could get to talk to us, but now it's like she doesn't even want to."
The corners of Anne's lips lowered into a frown as she read Marcy's dry text messages. "That is pretty weird, but we've already had this conversation with her, Sash; and even if we had it again, I'm sure her answers wouldn't be much different. She can be really stubborn when it comes to opening up."
Letting go of a small sigh, Sasha nodded in agreement. "Yeah, they can be. But I thought things would start getting better after we confronted them about it last time." She frowned. "Do you think something bad happened that she's not telling us about? Maybe something happened at school?"
"It's definitely possible," Anne answered, before her eyebrows raised with an idea. "Didn't she have that doctor's appointment recently? It could also have something to do with that."
"Yeah, maybe..." Sasha muttered as he put his phone back in his pocket. "I'm just sick of getting all of these mixed signals from her, y'know? I just want her to be honest with us, so we can help her. We all know what happened the last time her needs were neglected, and I really don't want anything like that to happen again."
Sighing, the brown-haired girl stopped walking and turned towards Sasha, taking both of the blonde's hands into her own and looking up into her blue eyes. "Sasha, I know you're worried. And trust me, I am too. There's definitely something she's hiding from us, but there's not much we can do about it until we see her in person. So for now, let's just try not to worry too much about it, alright?"
Sasha couldn't stop the corners of his lips from curling upwards into small smile, nodding in agreement with Anne. "Yeah, but I just..." He took a breath. "I was... a really bad friend to you guys in the past. There's a ton of things I regret and wish I would've done differently back then. But I've changed, a-and I just want Marcy to know that I'm here for her now, no matter what. I want her to know that she can open up to me, and I'll listen to her and help her and care about her."
Anne's gaze softened, and a warm smile spread across her lips. She let go of one of Sasha's hands and gently placed a hand on her cheek instead, keeping her other hand interlaced with the blonde's. "Darling, you don't need to prove to any of us that you've changed. We've seen it, with our own eyes. Heck, you being this concerned about Mar-Mar proves you've changed by itself! Each day you show me more and more how wonderful of a person you've become, and I've been nothing but happy ever since we started dating. Seriously, you make me so happy, Sasha." Anne assured her as redness spread across her warming cheeks. "Marcy knows that you're there for them, I'm sure of it; it's up to them to open up to us though, and we can't force that."
Sasha's cheeks had gone completely red too, and his lips took the form of a big smile. "You're right... you always are. Thank you." She mumbled with a small chuckle, bashfully looking down at the ground. It wasn't long before his gaze reconnected with Anne's though, staring fondly into her girlfriend's beautiful brown eyes. "I love you, Anne."
The redness that colored Anne's cheeks became more prominent, and her smile noticeably increased in size. She gently caressed Sasha's cheek with her hand and leaned a bit closer as she softly responded, "I love you too."
Sasha glanced down at Anne's lips, taking her leaning closer as an invitation to kiss her. The two hadn't shared a kissed on the lips yet as lovers, so this was kind of a big deal, and Sasha didn't want to mess it up— but thankfully, before she could think too hard about it, Anne gently wrapped an arm around Sasha's waist while the other hand remained on her cheek and connected her lips with the blonde's, the brunette's eyes fluttering shut alongside the motion. Sasha's eyes went wide for a moment, but within a few seconds she closed her eyes and relaxed into the kiss, tenderly wrapping her arms around Anne and pulling her a bit closer.
After a couple of seconds, Anne pulled away and opened her eyes. Sasha opened his eyes too, and the two shared a bashful giggle as they gazed lovingly at each other, both of their faces as red as tomatoes.
Unfortunately, this serene moment between the two was soon interrupted as someone passed by the two and teased, "Ewww! Get a room, 'Boobchuy'!"
Sasha and Anne immediately turned their heads in the direction of the voice only to see Maggie, her bright ginger hair standing out against her blue Saint James sweatshirt. While Anne was still a bit wary of her old school bully, the two were on better terms now after the invasion, since Maggie felt like she owed Anne some respect after she literally saved the world. Nowadays, the two would frequently joke around with each other and share lighthearted banter during class, but Anne wouldn't really consider them to be friends. Sasha, however, was not fond of Maggie picking on her girlfriend, even if it was meant in a lighthearted way. He furrowed his eyebrows and clenched his fists as he took a step toward Maggie, glaring at the orange-haired girl who was already starting to cower before Sasha even got the chance to say anything.
With wide eyes, Maggie held out her hands in front of her submissively. "I-I was just playing, Sash! Y-You know that!" She stammered underneath a nervous chuckle, to which Sasha responded with a sharpening glare. "Get out of here, Margo." Was all he had to say to scare Maggie away.
"O-Okay, okay!" She adjusted her grip on the straps of her backpack and quickly scrambled away.
With a satisfied smile across her lips, Sasha finally turned her attention back over to Anne, who had a surprised look on her face.
"Dang— you barely even had to say anything to get rid of her." Anne chuckled a little as she intertwined her fingers with Sasha's once again. "And here I was, thinking you'd gone soft."
"Eh," Sasha shrugged, "for you. But I'll still beat up anyone who dares to so much as look at you the wrong way in a second, babe— you know I will." Anne's heart was racing inside of her chest, and it felt like her entire face was on fire from how much she was blushing. There was something Anne loved so much about how protective Sasha was over her; it made her feel so safe, so cared for, even though she was way more capable of standing up for herself now after Amphibia. "Thanks, Sash. You're the best." She leaned forward to plant small kiss on Sasha's cheek before the two walked into school together, going their separate ways for their classes after a long goodbye once they got inside.
