Connor Hale Pov

Beep! ..... Beep! ..... Beep!
The alarm got louder the longer we let it sit there. Like it got angrier everytime it was ignored. Which I guess we should get used to it if you were going to be parents. Elena said it would be harder to ignore if it was across the room, that way we can actually get up on time. However, that didn't seem like the plan.
"Make it stop!" Elena yelled, shoving the pillow over her face. I rolled my eyes, it was her idea after all. "Hey, sometimes we have to live with our life decisions." I joked. She stopped squishing the pillow to her face and instead sat up and smacked me with it. "Hey!" I shouted, moving my hands to protect my face. "Hey, you better watch what you say, mister. I'm pregnant and emotional." All I could do was laugh, at least she was being honest.
"Well it was your idea." She nodded, obviously regretting her choice. I mean it seemed like a great idea at the time. "Ah, well you love me anyway. Even though I have terrible ideas." I nodded. "I don't think it's possible for me to stop loving you." And that everything was perfect.
Present.
Most people like to start there morning with coffee, and as much as I love those sugar drinks Alyssa brings home. I prefer starting the day with a jog. It gets the heart moving and helps me be in a clear head pace, which has been rather hard lately. Occasionally Alyssa would come with me, but today she was busy helping out sister Tessa find a new home. Tessa just got married to her husband Liam, so they wanted to find a place to call home. Together.
So I was alone today which was fine, it made everything calm and relaxing. I didn't have to worry about Ellie because Alyssa took her, said she needed time with her aunties. Which is fine with me, I get to spend all day with her tomorrow.
I looked at my watch, it was definitely time to head home and take a quick shower. Just so I could be ready for the day, then I remembered Jo was going to be helping in peds today. So it is going to be a good day after all.
The hospital was rather quite which is never a good sign. Ever heard the saying the calm before the storm. I waited by the nurses station, hopefully Jo will be on time today. Just like clockwork Jo and Link came running in. "Well, Jo without an E. How great it is to see you this morning." I paused for a second, before adding. "On time." She rolled her eyes, and let out a slight sigh of annoyance. Before she decided to speak. "So peds today?" She asked, with this hopefully gleam in her eye.
I nodded. "Peds" I confirmed. She smiled, happy that I didn't break my promise to her. Link looked confused for a second, he must of gave up in guessing because he ran off to go talk to Dr. Shepherd.

"Peds." He confirmed, I smiled. So a day of actual peace? I've haven't had that in a while, so I was glad to get a small break and follow Connor around for the day. The first place we went to was a patient name Isabella Dale. "Well, Bella how are you today?" Connor asked, the young girl. She smiled, they have definitely met before. Or maybe Connor just has that calming sweet presence to him, that it's just hard not to smile when you talk to him.
"Hi Dr. Connor. I'm good, I finally got rid of the monster under my bed." The little girl said with a huge smile. I tried not to laugh, kids say the weirdest things. "Yeah, how did you do that?" He asked, acting like he genuinely cares, which maybe he did. "Just like you said, I knocked on the bed frame and told him to go away." It was just getting harder to keep my laughter in at this point. Was that really what he told her to do? Something so simple? I wish real problems went away like that, I'd be a way happier person.
He gave her a high five, and she smiled the biggest grin I've ever seen on a child's face. From that interaction I can tell that Connor really cares about the kids. Isabella must have now just noticed me, because her eyes got huge. "Are you a princess?" She asked me. What? Where did that even come from? I looked at Connor for a second and he just smiled. "I mean your as pretty as a princess." The little girl continued. That is when Connor decided to add in his thoughts. "I feel like she makes a good point." Wait what. I was caught off guard for a second, before I finally spoke.
"Hey how did you find out my secret." I said, playing along with the girl. All she did was giggle. "Now you can't tell anyone, you have to tell everyone I'm Dr. Wilson." I said, in a whisper to add to her game. Which all it did was make her even happier, which gave me a warm feeling in my chest.
The rest of the day was about the same, little kids being adorable. Just prepping kids for surgery talking to the parents to was a nicer pace than what I'm used to. I had my lunch with Connor, who seemed happy just to have company. I always see him here with his daughter and his sister. They must not be in town today.
"You know your really good with kids." Connor says, as he takes a bite out of his cheeseburger. I laughed, of course he'd say that, he's just programmed to say nice things. He's like a robot, a robot of kindness. "Well, you should see yourself. You are amazing, I've never seen anyone that good with them." He smiled. He thought for a second before he spoke. "Yeah I really love what I do. Kind of like you love General." Well that's not a good comparison. "Loved, past tense." He titled his head in confusion.
"Ever since my husband left, general just hasn't been the same. It just feels like something is missing." I admitted. He nodded. "That's how it felt when my wife died, nothing made sense. Then I moved here, everything is starting to become clear again. Maybe you need a new start." He suggested. I thought for a second. I can't just leave Seattle, it's my home. "I don't think moving to a new state is for me." He laughed and shook his head. "That's not what I meant." He paused for a second, before deciding on what he was going to say.
"Maybe you should switch your specialty, now I'm not saying switch to peds. Maybe OBGYN because babies." He said the last part I'm sure of it. Then at that moment I got paged. Yay no more peds or Connor. I got up to leave. "Thanks for the advice." Connor nodded, like this was an easy thing to do. "Just think about what I said." Right as I was about to leave the cafeteria he yelled one last thing. "Oh yeah. I'm still on for drinks tonight at Joe with an E if you are."
