Chapter 10
A week has passed.
A full week passed in borderline awkwardness. Yahaba has ignored Oikawa for almost the whole week only ever speaking up to comment on small things that were work based. Tooru couldn't help but cringe at the fact that their once lively relationship had turned dull because of the whole ordeal.
Oikawa has tried to speak up and make conversations, but for some reason it was always one-sided on his part. He knew he was listening. There was nothing else for Shigeru to do other than listen to what Oikawa had to say.
A full week had passed in silence until Oikawa Tooru seemed to have had enough of it.
"Yahaba we need to talk."
Shigeru hummed mind distant,"About what?"
"About the fact that we barely communicate anymore, it is starting to affect our friendship...ever since the drowning."
Yahaba flinched and looked down at his hands. His breathing seemed to quicken at the mere thought of what happened.
At the moment, both men were at the boat, their workload of the day had finished. The only thing was that they were getting ready to leave. Ready to finally head home.
"I know the drowning affected you a lot, do you want to talk about it?"
Shigeru stayed silent for a moment. It seemed he wasn't going to say anything before he nodded in acceptance.
"Oikawa I haven't been able to sleep at all after that day...it has taken a toll on me."
Tooru sighed,"Is this because of the merman?"
Yahaba turned around with a hard glare,"I know what I saw that day." Oikawa frowned.
"The more I think about it, the more sure I am that that was what I saw. Tooru, you don't know the amount of fear I felt at that moment, I really thought I was going to die." Yahaba pointed at the dark sea around them,"Just being out here makes me want to hide because of what happened. I keep thinking whether it will come back to finish the job. "
Shigeru exhaled,"It's nerve-wracking."
Oikawa felt awful,"Yahaba you need to stop thinking about the merman," he felt awful for lying,"you know those are just fairy tales- there is no human possibilities for them to exist in the first place."
Oikawa leaned in closer and set a hand on Yahaba's shoulder,"I'm worried for you but this,"he signaled around them with an outstretched hand,"has got to stop."
Shigeru bit his lip in thought before nodding."You're right, let's just go home."
The ride home was silent, they had spent about an hour driving through the waves to finally make it on land once more. Oikawa didn't know if Yahaba believed him or truly thought that he should forget about the whole merman spiel. Tooru could only hope for Shigeru to forget about it. What Oikawa didn't know was that as he was leaving the docks and finalizing his goodbyes to Yahaba he had forgotten his very own keys.
"Oikawa you left your-" Shigeru turned to look for him,"keys..."
But Oikawa had already left and was far gone.

Kuroo groaned as he stretched his sore muscles.
He got up from his bed and was ready to leave his room until something caught his eyes. It was an email notification that had recently popped on his phone. Rubbing his eyes he clicked on it to read the letter.

Tetsurou sighed once he finished reading the letter. Honestly, he was surprised he still had a job to begin with after that incident with Iwaizumi and Shin. The mer had reluctantly explained what had actually happened to his poor research project. Looks like they were giving him another chance, except that this time he was paired up with a buddy of his.
Turning off his phone, he headed downstairs, only to choke on his saliva at the mere sight of what he saw.
Tetsurou staggered back, which caused one of his planters to fall in the process. In front of him stood Iwaizumi much to no surprise but next to him stood a stranger that happened to be as naked as the day he was born. What was it with mers walking out with nudity with no remorse.
Turning around, the stranger let out a deep settling growl and took a step forward as if to reach out towards Kuroo only to be stopped halfway by Iwaizumi with a bark.
"What do you think you are doing here?" Iwaizumi's voice was nothing like it usually was, it was authoritative and deep.
The other mer growled once more,"Why are you speaking their language!" He hissed,"Is it because the human is here and listening." He turned around and glared at Kuroo.
"That is not the point. What are you doing here?" Iwaizumi took a step forward.
The other mer lowered his gaze before replying,"I came to find you. I am sorry for how things ended, I don't want our relationship to end this way."
Relationship?
Kuroo could only guess this was the infamous Kyoutani...
He was a lot like Iwaizumi, but different in many ways. His voice was just as deep, and their build was similar towards each other. His skin was a light brown, which contrasted to Iwaizumi's slightly tanned skin. Both their eyes narrowed into glares but while Kyoutani was a light caramel, Iwaizumi was that of a bright green.
Iwaizumi' eyes softened slightly.
"You know I care about you, but you can't continue acting out this way."
Kuroo tore his gaze from the scene, it was almost like he was intruding into something he shouldn't see.
"I know." Kyoutani frowned,"I truly am sorry...especially to that human."
"The one you attacked?"
The younger mer nodded.
It was deadly quiet for a while, and Kuroo thought they were done talking until he heard the door slam open.
"What the actual fuck."
