ran and rindou drove you back to the hideout after you were finished eating. luckily, sanzu wasn't there to see you with them. you waited in the communal living room for sanzu to come back as the haitanis had other business to tend to.
kakucho brought the bags to sanzu's apartment later that day, and you were grateful to have some clothes to change into that weren't sanzu's.
the next few days happened without incident. you were still walking on eggshells around sanzu, and he only threatened to kill you a few times.
because he was babysitting you, you constantly had to be with him or another trusted bonten member at all times. you wondered how long this was going to last until one day sanzu informed you it was time to prove yourself.
just like every other day, you both walked into the living room, but today kakucho and koko were waiting for you.
oh god, what's in store for me here?
"good morning, y/n. please have a seat." kakucho said, ignoring sanzu's death stare when he gave you a soft smile.
you smiled back as you sat down across from the two men at the table. sanzu remained standing and watched over your shoulder.
"we have your first mission here." kakucho said, tapping a file beneath his hand.
"okay." you steeled yourself for what he was about to say. your knee bounced up and down underneath the table, feeling on edge. your mind couldn't help but wander as you thought about mikey's question about breaking into the government database. you prayed it wouldn't be something like that already.
"a certain someone owes us money, and we have reason to believe he has the funds but keeping the money for himself." kakucho explained. "can you take care of it?"
"how do you want it done?" you asked him.
"do it electronically. and don't let it be traced back to us." kokonoi said.
you waited for them to keep talking, but they just stared at you. your brow furrowed slightly in anticipation.
that's it?
both of the men across from you noticed your silence.
"what? is it too much for you?" kokonoi smirked. "i'm not going to lie honey, i expected more out of you. after all, the rumors say you're one of the best. maybe they were all completely baseless."
you met kokonoi's gaze with your own, your eyes narrowing at the edges.
"no, i can do it." you replied coolly. you weren't surprised by them underestimating you.
neither of the men at the table thought you would respond with that much conviction so easily. kakucho raised an eyebrow at you before clearing his throat and slid you the file folder.
"okay then. here's the information you need about the target."
"and here's the account to transfer the money to." kokonoi added, handing you a separate piece of paper with some banking information listed on it.
"you have until tomorrow evening to complete the assignment. does that seem reasonable?"
you nodded once in agreement. "so what computer can i use?"
kakucho handed you a laptop.
"we installed tracking software to detect every movement you make on that computer, and someone will be watching you at all times while you're using it. keep that in mind while you work." he told you.
"you guys sure are careful." you joked as you took the laptop into your hands.
you reviewed the information given about the man to you. the target was some guy named hansen. he had received an investment from bonten, but the profits on the club he owned didn't seem to match what he told them.
