"He raised his hands... And they all stood up at once...Tens of thousands of them, the biggest army in the world." Joanna told Sam the next day when she, Jon, and Sam were in the library.
"So what are you gonna do?" Sam asked the two softly
"I'm gonna hope they don't learn how to climb the wall," Jon told the man as she took a sip of his drink
"But... the Dragonglass?" Sam asked
Jon and Joanna both shook their heads as Jon looked down.
"No one's ever getting that back, now. It wouldn't have mattered anyway unless we had a mountain of it." Joanna told the man
"But... you killed a White Walker," Sam said in confusion
"With Dragon Fire. I saw them shatter steel axes like they were glass. But Dragon Fire..." Joanna began
"Is made of Valyrian steel. How many Valyrian steel swords are left in the Seven Kingdoms?" Sam asked the woman
"Not enough," Joanna replied
"The first Lord Commander in history to sacrifice the lives of sworn Brothers to save the lives of Wildlings. How does it feel to be friends with the most hated man in Castle Black?" Jon asked his friend with a smile
"You were friends with me when I first got here. And I wasn't winning any elections back then." Sam told the man with a smile
"Here's to us then. Long may they sneer." Joanna spoke raising her cup as the two clinked their cups with hers and drank.
After a short moment, Sam looks at Jon."What?" Jon asked.
"I wanted to ask you something. To ask something of you. Send me, Gilly, and the baby to Oldtown so I can become a Maester. That's what I'm meant to be, not this." Sam explained to the man
"I need you here, Sam. If you leave, who's left to give me advice I trust?" Jon replied
"Well, there's Edd." Sam sarcastically said as Jon gave him a look.
"Look, for now, you have Joanna and I'll be more use to you as a Maester. More use to everyone now that Maester Aemon's gone. The Citadel has the world's greatest library. I'll learn about history, strategy, and healing. And other things. Things that will help when... when they come." Sam explained as Jon stared at him not saying anything "If Gilly stays here then she'll die. And the baby that she named after me will die. And I'll end up dying, too, trying to protect them. Which means that the last thing that I'll see in this world will be the look in her eyes when I fail them." Sam continued in a soft tone "and I'd rather see a thousand White Walkers than see that." He finished
Jon took a deep breath before nodding his head at Sam and smiled
"Thank you," Sam told the man
"You know that The Citadel will make you swear off women, too," Joanna told the man
"They'll bloody try," Sam replied looking at the two incredulously.
"Sam?" Jon and Joanna asked in unison
"What?" He asked
"Sam..." Jon trailed with a smirk as Sam smiled "You've just been beaten half to death. How did you--" Jon began
"Very carefully," Sam said with a smile which made the other two smile and laugh
"I'm glad the end of the world's working out for someone," Jon spoke
"Hey!" Joanna retorted playfully pushing him as he laughed
"I was joking." He told the woman who playfully rolled her eyes before they grew quiet for a moment
