I'm sorry but this checks all my boxes TEN outta TEN
or it would be if I didn't hate that they died
so 9/10 just because these two boys deserved to live
and I'm super mad that they didn't
and how Rufus died omg heart BROKE

(I took forever deciding on what picture to put one picture had Rufus and Mateo snuggling in bed another had them sitting in a cemetery and the final one had two shadows with the words 'Two dudes met--they fell in love--they lived--that's our story)

This story is one of falling in love, accepting death while trying to beat it, and all-around acceptance

As soon as the story starts you meet Mateo a total introvert terrified of trying new things
and
Rufus a kid who lives in foster homes and has a gang total thriller type

There's something called a death cast in this book and basically some person on a phone will call you between 12:00 am - 3:00 am to tell you that withing the next 24-21 hours you will die but if you don't get called congrats you live another day, if you don't have a phone from being broke or you're like 4 your relative/guardian will be called

The main characters are obviously Mateo and Rufus, but you see a page of a few others lives as well

I knew they would die but I guess you just form such a connection with the characters that even when they bite the dust it was still unexpected yet totally expected

overall, I'm making this required reading so go on get of your electronics and read or you know listen to it on kindle
