Days passed after YN had left, and the tension between Midoriya and Mirio grew rapidly. After Midoriya constantly apologized to Mirio about the decision, he insisted to Midoriya never to speak with him for a while. That has never happened before. A third year telling a younger student never to talk with him for a while. But he understood and took his request seriously. Both him and Midoriya returned to classes as Sir continued to recover from the hospital. Mirio received a call from the hospital as Mirio explained about YN's irrational behavior.
"What she decided was based on a vision I saw. I couldn't have stopped her even if I tried."
"What do you mean by that?!" Mirio argued, "You do realize that Overhaul is the villain here?!"
"That villain saved my life, Mirio. I wouldn't live today without his quirk."
"That doesn't matter! YN's-"
"Mirio: I understand you are concerned with YN, but if you truly care about her, then trust her. I've learned that's the hard way to accept it, but it's up to her to make her own decisions. She's a hero, just like you. So, try and respect it."After the phone call ended, it infuriated Mirio more and more. However, no matter how hard he tried to think about it, he couldn't comprehend what the outcome would be if she remained without a quirk and in that state forever. Would she be even happy about that? And after what Sir suggested, he had to accept it and move on.
It didn't help Midoriya's mental state either as days turned into months. While expecting a response from the Shie Hassakai about YN's condition, the stress was making things more difficult for Midoriya than he could ever imagine. Even replaying the situation before her departure kept going through a loop:
"I don't feel right about this."
"I understand you're scared for my sake, but this is something I must do."
"But what if... what if he hurts you?"
"He won't. Trust him."As Midoriya sat down, trying to contemplate on the situation, questions and concerns were boggling in his mind. It started to affect his performance in class and studies frequently. One afternoon, as he was sitting down with his lunch in front of him, his mind started to wander.
'Why did Overhaul change his mind after he said no?'
'Was there something he wasn't telling us up front?'
'If there was, then should we be concerned of her safety?'
'What kind of remedies is YN experiencing at this very moment??'
'What if?? What if?!!'"Midoriya?" a student in glasses called him out of his thoughts. "Is everything alright? You hardly touched your food?"
"Huh? Oh sorry!" Midoriya apologized frantically to his fetllow classmate Iida, "I was just lost in thought, I guess."
"You seem to be in thought a lot recently," another classmate remarked.
"Shoto's right, Midoriya." Iida agreed, "Looks like that study program is really making things complicated for you in class than out there."
"It isn't, actually." Midoriya spoke, "it's just... "He couldn't finish his sentence, since he was unsure how to express it to anyone who could understand his situation.
"Never mind." he replied as he started to scoop his food.
Iida noticed his expression and extended his hand towards him.
"You know, you can tell us anything. We're friends, right?"
Midoriya's eyes widened with shock. He recalled a similar situation with Iida when his brother was injured a while back. Though he didn't want to before, Midoriya did extend an olive branch to him when he was ready to talk about it. And now, while the situation is different, Iida was helping him out.
"I understand that your situation may be different than what I was going through," Iida continued, "but you have friends here who will be by your side always. No matter what happens, things will turn out alright."
Tearfully, Midoriya started to cry, making Iida confused at his expression.
"Wait. Did I say something wrong?? If I did, I'm very sorry about that!"
Midoriya didn't respond to Iida's concern as he filled his mouth with the Katsudon in front of him. The two of them stared in surprise as he gorged his food till there was nothing left in the bowl. As soon as the plate touched the table, he swallowed the food as many times as he could, trying to keep his stomach satisfied.
"Thanks, you guys." he mumbled. "I really need to hear that. We're heroes in training after all... We're not meant to cry over something so simple."
"I don't know about that." Shoto remarked, "Even heroes cry every now and then. It makes us human after all."Without uttering another word, Shoto started to place a small pile of Udon from his box to Midoriya's bowl. Iida followed suit and added a small pile of beef stew on his as well. Midoriya smiled lightheartedly as his friends were trying to cheer him up.
"They're right after all." Midoriya thought internally. "I can't worry about YN right now. She's a hero as well. I'm sure she's alright."
What he failed to realize that the situation back to Overhaul's base wasn't at all as he expected.
*** YN's POV ***
As I sat on the bedside, waiting for the cure, I thought about the situation carefully.
Kai, who's personality has changed, hasn't come into the room to check in on me. Chrono, who's keeping an eye on me, has. So, what's been going on?
Just at that moment, the door opened. I looked up as Chrono walked in calmly.
"Forgive my intrusion, young YN." he replied softly. "I wanted to check in on you."
As I was about to forgive him, a thought occurred to me. He called me by my name, even though I didn't say what my name was.
"How did you-"
"Your spell explained everything to me."
"Oh. I see..."I had completely forgot all about that spell when I was in my hero form.
It was meant to be a cry for help, but for some reason, my spell was instructing the one who protected me about my current life form.
"Look, the young lord is in trouble. I don't know what it is or how to help him, but I need to contact someone to get you out of here."
"Wait. You mean-"
"Yes. The young lord is possessed with some kind of quirk. Not sure from what or where, but I need to get you to go before-"All of a sudden, a figure opened the door abruptly. As we stared towards the person in question, the guy looked right toward Chrono.
"You're dismissed, Chrono. Your boss has ordered me to find you and help him out with the plan.""If the young lord wishes, I'll do so."
As he left, I placed a small note in his pocket. It was the number to contact Mirio and warn him of the situation.
