James Potter walked down the aisle of the Hogwarts Express looking for an empty compartment.

Unsuccessfully, James found one with a boy in, all on his own, he had scars all over his face and neck; a very short buzzcut and crinkled clothes.

James slowly opened the door, bringing the boy back to reality from his daydreams, "Hi, er, is it alright if I sit in here? All the other compartments are full."

The boy shrugged.

James took that as a yes and lifted his trunk onto the rail above the seats.

"Would you like me to help you put your trunk on top too?" James asked trying to make a good impression.

The boy shrugged awkwardly. He stood up and lifted his trunk, as it was about to fall from the boy's soft grip, James caught it and helped lift it next to his own.

As he did so the boy's baggy sleeve came down to his shoulder reviling even more scars.

"Are you alright?" James asked very concerned.

"Yes, I'm fine." The boy muttered firmly, shoving his sleeve back down.

After they finally sat down, James realised how impolite he was being, "What's your name?"

"Remus Lupin."

"I'm James Potter."

Remus nodded and turned his head to look out the window as the train started moving. James couldn't spot his parents as they were further back, so he didn't bother waving.

They sat in silence for a while. James found it odd that it wasn't awkward. He managed to stay quiet for a while as he could tell Remus didn't want to talk. So instead, he bused himself with stroking his new cat while trying to think of a name.

The next moment the compartment door opened, entering was the Black heir next to him was smaller, chubbier boy biting his nails.

"You don't mind if we sit in here do you, everywhere else is full." Black asked directly at James.

He looked over at Remus- who was looking Black and the other boy up and down- he glanced at James and just shrugged then turned back to the window.

"I don't see why not." James said.

Black put his trunk up with ease then lifted the other boy's luggage just as easily and put it on the rail next to his own.

Black gestured to the boy to sit. He stumbled other and sat in the sit still biting his nail. Next to him Black sat gracefully but kept his cool. James couldn't work out if he admired that or not.

Black glanced at him then extended his hand, "Sirius Black."

"James Potter." James said taking it.

"Oh nice, a Potter, Mother and Father would not be proud of me." Sirius smirked. "A Black becoming friends with a Potter, bet no one saw that coming." Sirius muttered after.

"Lovely." James scoffed, "What's your name?" James asked turning to the other boy.

"P-Peter Pettigrew." Peter stuttered.

James nodded.

Sirius glanced other at Remus with one of his perfect eyebrows raised.

"This is Remus Lupin." James introduced.

At his name Remus jumped. "Hi." Remus muttered.

"Hi, Lupin was another Pureblood family before, I assume your father met your mother."

"Dunno. Don't care."

Peter frowned," What do you mean 'you don't know'?"

"I mean, I don't anything about my family." Remus snapped clearly annoyed.

"Sorry." Peter whispered, going back to biting his nail. James guessed that will probably stop him from saying anything else.
