chapter four:
proposed betrothal
─────────────────RHAENYRA COULD not help to think her daughter was much like herself in her own youth. She had almost pitied her father now, knowing what it was like to raise a child of chaos. Being back at king's landing after everything that happened in the Velaryon castle put the heir at ease. Though a few day had already passed, she still worried how long it would be until her daughter regained most feeling back in her right hand.
"Princess?" The council awaited for the heir's input. "Forgive me," Rhaenyra cleared her throat as she brought her attention to the council and out of her thoughts. Alicent spoke once more, "I was reminding the council of the time you offered a marriage between our children." The heir couldn't help but wonder where this conversation may be going. "Have you...reconsidered the betrothal of Jacaerys and Helena?"
Alicent looked towards the King who gave a nod of approval. "I wish to betroth Aegon and Aelanys. Especially after these past events...the king and I believe it is high time we unite our families." Rhaenyra paused for a moment in shock. Her daughter proved she had taken much after herself. She knew this would not go over well with the young princess. A part of Rhaenyra also felt this unjust considering even she had a choice in such a matter. The heir bit her tongue choosing her next words wisely. With their families clinging onto a sliver of peace, Rhaenyra knew she had to approach with caution. "Your Grace," Rhaenyra looked towards her father hoping he would understand. "You have honored me as heir by allowing me a choice on such a delicate matter. I wish to do the same with my own heir."
Alicent scoffed clearly displeased with the her answer.
"Aelanys will make a fine match for Aegon," Otto Hightower pipped in as he adjusted his hand of the king pin. Viserys took a deep breath out before nodding taking the situation before him in. "Very well. We will expect an answer after Aelanys becomes of age." Everyone knew this would be his answer. The King had a soft spot for his granddaughter that reminded him so much of his beloved Aemma.
"I shall ready Aelanys with this news." Rhaenyra excused herself from the council's. The named heir quickly gathered her husband and new sworn knight, Ser Erryk to her daughter's chambers. Rhaenyra felt a pang in her gut and she knew something was wrong. Especially with a knight panicking by her daughters chambers. "Where is Ser Dravyn?" Rhaenyra questioned the young knight before her. Nervous under her stare he gulped, "I-I do not know princess. I came to retrieve Ser Dravyn for training but I could find him nor the princess."
"What do you mean she is not in her chambers? Her hand is barely recovering!" Rhaenyra looked toward the knight irritated. "I'm afraid she has snuck away my princess but, surely Ser Dravyn is protecting her," Sheepishly said the knight. "She couldn't have gotten very far, I visited her not long ago," Ser Laenor tried to ease his wife. "Aelanys shall be the death of m," Rhaenyra sighed while entering her daughter's chamber and sitting down on the sofa. "I will find her," Ser Erryk nodded to his princess. "Speak nothing of this, you must be discreet when searching for her, Ser Erryk," Commanded the future Queen.
