chapter thirteen:
strong marriage
─────────────────THE NIGHT WENT on filled with lively music and entertainment. Viserys ensured his granddaughter's wedding would be one remembered in history. Aelanys put up a smile for her grandsire as she knew the king went to great lengths to arrange it all for her.
"How are you feeling my sweet?" Rhaenyra nudged her daughters side as they sat at the Royal table awaiting dinner to be served. With Aemond and the Hightowers greeting the rest of the green family, Aelanys felt it easier to speak freely. "In truth...a bit nervous but, I shall be fine," The bride answered with a hesitant smile. The heir took ahold of her daughters hand and squeezed it for reassurance.
"My sweet Aelanys!" Viserys moved into his second son's seat as he gleamed at the princess. Rhaenyra grinned as she allowed her father and daughter to have time to themselves as she turned to engage in conversation with Daemon.
"Grandsire, tis' an honor to have you go to such lengths to organize my wedding," Aelanys kissed the old king's cheek. "I would anything for you sweetling," He smiled before erupting in a cough into his handkerchief. "Grandsire, were you able to get it done in time?" Aelanys whispered over to him. "Of course," Viserys chuckled and coughed as he reached into his pocket. He handed her a small red cloth that she carefully unwrapped to see Viserys' ring from his first marriage. "There wasn't any trouble resizing it?" Aelanys asked as she carefully wrapped the ring back, handing it to her grandsire for safe keeping. "Not at all, I had Alicent make all the arrangement. You may want to give your thanks to her as well, she went through great lengths to get it done in a timely manner," Viserys kissed her cheek before moving back into his seat as Aemond was coming up from greeting guests.
Aemond ensured to acknowledge his father as he took back his seat.
"How are our guests?" Aelanys asked politely. "Fine," Aemond was short as he poured himself more wine. "Perhaps we should make toasts for the crowds?" She suggested to which he only gave a nod in response as he drank wine. Supper for the night included the traditional feast of seventy-seven courses. Noticing Aemond's confused expression upon not seeing the suckling pig that most customary wedding courses incorporated, Aelanys whispered over to him, "I requested the suckling pig not be added. I did not wish to have ill reminders today."
The one-eye prince whipped his head to her in surprise.
Had she still cared for him?
Did she purposefully wanted to remind him of his lowest moment?
Was she trying to make it a point to everyone that his wounds never healed from the traumatic events?
