chapter twenty:
storm's end
─────────────────

Aelanys watched as a polished Aegon entered the council room to everyone's displeasure. Her mother always spoke of wanted a relationship with her half-siblings, mostly with Helaena. So, it wasn't a surprise to Aelanys when her mother welcomed Aegon to her council table.

"What is he doing here?" Lord Bartimos questioned with a look of distain in his eyes toward Aegon.

"Aegon is my brother, so I welcome him to my table. He may be of help to us yet," Rhaenyra breathed out unsure of the responses she'd receive.

"Where is his grace this morrow?" Lord Simon, the old fart, pondered while searching for Daemon.

"Your King Consort has more pressing matters to deal with this morning," Rhaenyra answered back with narrowed eyes.

Lord Simon let out a gruff sigh and a few council members mumbled in response.

"I seem to have some confusion. I thought we were petitioning for Rhaenyra to ascend the throne. Unless you all would like another Maegor on the throne instead?" Rhaenys raised a brow and silenced the mumbling.

Rhaenyra turned to Rhaenys and gave a look of gratitude.

They began their session to make a move. Everyone bickered about how to go forward with the succession. "Rumors have spread you have taken Aegon and plan to kill him. News is, they plan to crown Aemond now that believe Aegon will soon be disposed of," Lord Gormon announced as he read from the scroll in his hands.

Aelanys scoffed.

"Right because my mother is able to safely imprison a prince and dragon." Aelanys rolled her eyes shaking her head.

"The people will believe anything the royals want them to believe, princess," Lord Bartimos proclaimed before turning back his attention on the queen. "We should surround King's Landing, lay siege to the Red Keep and force the greens to surrender."

Lord Corlys nodded in agreement.

"The Narrow Sea is ours. If we further seal the Gullet," Corlys explained hovering his hand over the table where the Gullet was marked, "we can cut off all seaborne travel and trade to King's Landing."

Rhaenys moved closer to examine the table before speaking. "I shall take Meleys and patrol the Gullet myself." She moved her gaze to the queen and gave a small smile.
