"So, you know Padmé? Luke's mom?" Anakin asked Owen the next day. He and Leia had gone over to visit for the afternoon, and the three cousins were coloring at the kitchen table while Anakin sat on the couch in the living room chatting with Owen and Beru.

Owen grinned. "Padmé, formerly known as Hot Mom?"

"That's the one," said Anakin, though not without an exasperated sigh; he should've known better than to mention his coworkers' teasing to his brother. "Well, she and Luke were at our house for three hours yesterday, and—"

"Mommy, I need help with my picture!" Lukey suddenly called from the other room. As an architect, Beru was quite excellent at drawing, and Anakin could always tell which of the pictures on the fridge had involved her assistance.

"Coming," Beru said, looking relieved. To Owen and Anakin, she added, "I'm not sure I want to be a part of this conversation anyway."

They both laughed and she hurried away towards the kitchen. "You were saying?" Owen prompted. "About Hot Mom?"

"About Padmé," Anakin corrected firmly. "Anyway, I found out that she is single. Like, completely single. Not even a boyfriend or anything."

"Nice!" Owen said in delight. "So are you going to get on that or what?"

"Owen!"

"What? I know you keep saying you don't want to date until Leia's older and more able to handle it, and I get that, but you don't have to put your own life completely on hold for her sake," Owen pointed out. "Plus, she'd probably love the idea of her dad dating her friend's mom."

"That's exactly why I can't," said Anakin. "Maybe she'd love it, but maybe she'd think it was really weird. And what if we dated and then broke up? It might damage her friendship with Luke, and I'd hate for that to happen. Or what if she got really attached to Padmé and was devastated when we broke up?"

"Well, then, maybe she doesn't have to know about it right away," Owen replied, once again echoing Darrkin and Deylin. "I mean, obviously you'd have to tell her eventually, but why not spend a few months testing the waters with Padmé before telling either of your kids? If it starts getting serious, then you'll tell them, but if you quickly realize that it's not going to work out, you can call it quits without Leia or Luke ever being any the wiser."

"That is...actually a good idea," Anakin admitted. "But still, Leia's only five. I feel like I should wait at least a few more years before dating again."

"If Padmé really is as beautiful as you say, a few years might be too late," said Owen. "She'll get snapped up by someone else, and then you'll always wonder what could've happened if you'd acted sooner."

"Okay, you're being a little dramatic. I only just met her, it's not like she's my soulmate."

"Well, she could be, but how will you know until you try?"

"She probably isn't even interested in me at all."

"Then she's an idiot. Anyone would be lucky to have you."

Anakin rolled his eyes, but he couldn't help smiling. "Thanks," he said. "But most people aren't that willing to date the single father of a five-year-old. Too much responsibility."

Owen stared at him incredulously. "Are you seriously trying to tell me that the mother of a five-year-old wouldn't want to date you because you also have a five-year-old?"

He had a point. "Well, she's five years younger than me," Anakin tried, remembering she'd mentioned she'd only been twenty-three when Luke was born.

"Who cares? This isn't high school, you're both grown adults with children. A five-year age difference is nothing." Owen gave him a knowing look. "You're just making excuses."
