~To Be Together~

The pair sat on the bench for a while enjoying the gentle breeze. They exchanged looks, only looking at the other when the other wasn’t looking. At the close proximity of their faces, New noticed a little black beauty mark on the lower lid of Zee’s right eye. Without thinking, New reached out his index finger to try and touch the area under Zee’s eye. Zee froze for a moment, not knowing what to make of the situation. No one has ever done this to him, or ever made him feel like this. His breath was caught in his throat and his heart was beating as fast as a race car. When reality kicked back and New realized what he was doing, he found himself gently probing Zee’s under eye. New’s eyes grew twice its size and he gasped out loud. He looked at his finger and then back at Zee, who held a confused yet gentle gaze. New was so shocked about his action, that when he quickly jerked his finger away from Zee’s eye, he accidentally touched his eye ball.

“Oh my goodness, Phi I am so sorry.” New was already making his way to Zee’s side when he heard a faint groan from Zee.

In New’s mind, he was thinking the worst possible scenario.

“Oh no! The future heir of Chiang Rai is going to be blind because of me. What if he never gets his eyesight back? What if he never gets to see his parents again? What if this causes problems with our father’s friendship?”

New was so caught up in his mind, that he didn’t realize he was crying. In all honesty, Zee didn’t feel any pain when New accidentally touched his eye ball. He was shocked, but not in pain, but what he saw did cause him pain. New’s eyes were welling up and a big tear poured out of his eye and gently descended down New’s cheek, leaving a misty trail.

“Nu! Nu! I’m ok. Nu! Look at me?” Zee’s hands found New’s back and drew him into his chest. It all happened so quickly that Zee didn’t know what to do, but to hug the younger. He gently patted New’s back, whispering sweetly that he was ok.

When New came back, he felt warmth all around him which made him feel safe. When he realized that Zee was hugging him, he became very shy. Zee finally ended the embrace; when he felt that New’s breathing was back to normal, to look at New.

“Nu. Are you ok?” Zee was genuinely concerned, gently cupping New’s face.

“Phi, I am so sorry that I poked your eye. Are you ok?” Zee’s iris danced around the sclera as he gazed upon New, smiling as he realized that New was just as concerned as he was. Zee straightened his back to stretch out, turning his gaze away from New. He closed his eyes and quickly swallowed his saliva as an urge to kiss the younger grew inside of him.

“Not now.” Zee reminded himself.

Zee stood up, having an internal war with himself.

“Nu, should we go and get something to eat? I was in a business meeting this morning and I hadn’t had breakfast. So I’m kind of hungry.” Zee was trying to come up with anything, to distract him from taking the younger's lips right then and there.

New, who didn’t have a clue of what was happening with Zee, immediately jumped up with a big smile at the announcement of food. He himself hadn't had anything to eat this morning, as he was so nervous about the outing today.

“Sounds great, Phi. I’m actually hungry myself. I know a great place where we can go.” New said as he walked over to Zee and pulled his hand, leading them to the car.

*Back home at the Perdpiriyawong mansion*

Kuea was sitting at his study table, finishing up a project for school. He had put it off, because of the ball, but now he was knee deep, wanting to finish it. He’s a freshman at one of the top Architecture Universities in Thailand, the Faculty of Architecture, Chiang Mai University. His project was due back on Monday, so he was going to be pulling an all-nighter for 2 nights to complete and make sure that every measurement and component of his project is correct.

“Nu, can I come in,” Kuea turned to his door as his mum popped her head into his room.

“Mum! What are you doing here?” Kuea pushed his chair back and rushed to the door and crashed his mum into a hug. He’d thought that after the ball, that his parents would be going back to work, which meant his mum should be back in Paris, getting ready for fashion week. So he was shockingly happy to see his mum, here in Thailand and in his room.

“Oh my big boy. I have a few days free before I have to go back to Paris, so I thought maybe we could spend some time together.” Maria Perdpiriyawong was a very successful and busy woman, yet when she had time, her first thoughts were to spend time with her children. She knew that New was on a date, so she came to see if Kuea was free.

“Mum, I’m actually finishing up a project for school. It’s due on Monday…so,” Kuea quickly shook his head, “I could spare a few hours. Where should we go?” Kuea knew that these types of opportunities were rare in their family, so he didn’t want to miss out.

Maria looked at her son with a smile. It’s been a while since she last spent this much time with Kuea and now as she looked at him, he had grown up a lot. It always gets her emotional as she thinks about the time she missed watching her boys grow up, but she was also very thankful that they have become responsible and mature. There have been a few times when the whole family was together, and during those times they would do everything together, like going camping as a family, going on family trips, or just sitting together at home and talking. Those were cherished memories that she will never ever forget.

“Baby it’s ok. I know how important school is to you and I know that you really want to finish this project-”

“Mum, I honestly can spare a few hours. We can go eat out and talk, honestly. I miss you and you’ll be leaving soon, so I want to spend time with you before you go. Please. Really, I’m ok. I was getting hungry anyways.” Kuea’s pleading voice was enough for Maria to cave in. She couldn’t deny her son, while he was giving her the most adorable puppy eyes, the same eyes he would use when he was little to avoid getting into trouble for skipping dinner and going straight for desert. She smiled and nodded her head, agreeing to their little date.

“I’ll quickly change into something else, just give me 10 minutes.” Kuea quickly headed into his walk-in closet to pick an outfit for his date. Maria looked around her son’s room, noticing how clean it was. She looked over his study table and saw the project that Kuea was working on and beamed with pride to see her son working hard.

*Crash

Maria called out to Kuea as she walked into the closet and stopped short when she saw her son collapsed onto the floor.

“KUEA!” Maria screamed and rushed over to her son’s side.

“Kuea! Nu Kuea! Wake up.” Her head started to spin as she realized that her son wasn’t opening his eyes.

“Madam?” Aunty Ja had heard Maria scream and came rushing to the young masters room.

“Aunty Ja, please call Tik. Tell him to come home right now.”

Aunty Ja didn't understand what was going on, until she saw Maria holding Kuea in her hands. Her initial reaction was to freeze but Maria called her once again, and so she phoned Khun Tik. After a few rings, he answered.

“Khun Tik, you have to come home straight away. Please, something happened to Khun Kuea.” Aunty Ja was still in shock, she didn’t hear what Khun Tik was saying.

“Aunty Ja, please pass me the phone.” Maria grabbed the phone from the nanny and spoke to her husband.

“Please come home.”
