( III, left with a paper cut ) "you betrayed me, and i know you'll never feel sorry." —traitor, olivia rodrigo.
Iris had experienced hell before. Let it be her mothers death or becoming the social parish of her old school after her breakup — hell could even be when she suddenly caught the flu in third grade, missing the talent show she had dreamed about. She knew what it felt like to walk through the burning hot pits of hell and come out with a paper cut. Yet, the challenge before her seemed unbearable — even if it involved puppies and kittens.
It took Iris a while to cope with Lilah cheating on her with some jock from their school, back in New York. She blocked her on all social media and avoided all sources of communication both on the media and in real life. Iris didn't even congratulate Lilah on her new makeup brand. "Iris! Wow, it's great to see you." She sickly smiled, her white teeth practically twinkling in the dingy kennel light. Iris weakly smiled back, Drea rolling her eyes at the two, "She wish she could say it back—"
Iris nudged Drea not-so-subtly. "Pardon Drea, she's just a bit sour on this whole community service thing. The boss lady has her working the kennel and the farm."
"Oof," Lilah put a hand over her heart in faux simpathy, "working the farm with the farm lesbians. I pray for you." She put on a fake pout while subtly looking Drea up and down.
"Aren't you a les—"
"—So, do you have any jobs for us?" Iris' eyes widened at the raven-haired girl beside her who rolled her eyes with an irritated glance. "Stop interrupting me." She whispered as they followed Lilah down the short hallway to a large glass cage.
"You almost just accused her of being a lesbian." Iris harshly whispered back, Drea squinting her eyes, "I'm sorry, did you two not have a serious relationship? Because if we're doing 'do revenge' over a small little fling—"
"Okay, first off, we definitely had a serious relationship. And two, do revenge is still not proper grammar!"
"You and Eleanor are making me want to slam my head into a wall with this grammatically correct bullshit! And also—"
"Here we are!"
"What is with people and interrupting me!" Drea irritatingly shouted, her eyes squeezed shut while her fists were squeezed together. Iris pressed her lips together before glancing back at Lilah who's eyes widened, "Keep the anger issues away from the animals. We don't need to stress them out, now do we?"
Her sickly sweet voice made Iris's head practically spin and come unscrewed like a Snapple bottle. She hated this. She hated her. She even hated herself for ever agreeing with this stupid plan. But she ultimately remembered why she was doing this.
