It's been eight months since I saw Kyle last. Eli and I spend almost everyday together. He does so much for me. He's always helping around the house and cooking me dinner. I felt like I had my life back finally, like everything was going back to normal.
I woke up bright and early getting out of my new bed. Eli had fixed up a lot of things around the house. He built me a bed frame which took me a while to get used to. I always expect to be closer to the ground. My legs hung over the side and I hopped down walking into a warm inviting shower.
Eli and I had plans for lunch. I pulled out a black maxi dress leaving my hair down to dry. I fed Kuma kissing the top of her head. Life had been put back to normal all the pieces fitting snuggly together.
I heard the knock at the door and skipped to it opening it quickly. Eli stood wearing a blue flannel shirt and jeans.
He smiled and I pulled him inside hugging him tightly. He kissed me quickly putting his hands on either side of my face. I smiled brightly.
"Hey." He said.
"Hi." I giggled.
He kissed me again picking me up. I squealed laughing as he spun me around in a circle setting me down gently.
"Hey." He whispered.
I smiled, "Hi."
Eli kissed the top of my head holding me tightly. I wrapped my arms around his waist pulling him closer. "What do you want to do today?" I said smiling.
"I was thinking dinner." He said smiling.
"Dinner is in a few hours." I laughed, "What do you want to do now?"
"Well there's a fair going on but the last time I invited you you ditched me."
I smacked his shoulder, "That's not fair." I looked at him as he laughed at me.
He held his arms up defensively, "Hey! I'm just telling you like it is!"
I crossed my arms looking at him knitting my brows together. "Mhm." I pouted.
Eli laughed and kissed the top of my forehead rubbing my arms up and down. "Would you like to go to the fair with me?" He asked.
I smiled, "Yes please."
The placed was packed and laughter fills the air all around us. We went on a few rides and played a few games. Eli won me a cheap teddy bear. It was hot pink holding a heart that said 'I love you' on it. Eli made sure we got a chance to ride on the Ferris wheel and when we reached the top I looked up as the sun began to go down. I smiled so content with my life in that moment.
I leaned into Eli and he wrapped his arm around my shoulder. He kissed the top of my head and I looked up at him kissing him lightly.
"This is perfect." I said quietly into his chest.
Eli chuckled, "How about some dinner?"
We went to a restaurant down the road. There were small tea light candles on the tables with short flowers in crystal vases. We ordered and the waiter served us quickly.
"I love this place." I looked around, "It's so cute."
"You're pretty cute yourself." I rolled my eyes at him, "Too cheesy huh?"
I laughed, "Only a lot."
"So..." Eli put his hands in his lap looking at me smiling.
"What?" I asked.
"Are you happy?"
I peered at him questioningly "Yes. I am." I tilted my head, "Why?"
"I..." Eli smiled shyly, "I am really happy." He reached out taking my hand, "I love you. And I find you to be absolutely wonderful. And all of your quirks delight me."
I laughed loudly, "Eli what are you doing?"
"Let me finish. I think you're incredible. And fascinating. You're so smart and funny. The way your nose crinkles when you smile, the way your body shakes when you laugh." He got out of his chair kneeling on one knee.
"Eli." I gasped, "Eli get up." I looked around us as couples began to stare.
"I love you. So much. And I love everything about you. And I don't want to go another day without waking up next to you." He reached into his pocket pulling out a gold ring with a small diamond on it, "I will do whatever it takes to keep you safe. No matter what. Always and forever." He slid the ring up my finger slowly, "So, uh," he stuttered, "Will you, um," he began to clear his throat, "Will you marry me?"
I grinned looking at my hand wanting to scream and shout for joy. Tears started to form at the corners of my eyes. I clasped my hand over my mouth trying hard not to squeal loudly nodding my head viciously up and down.
"Yes?" Eli asked standing up.
I stood up wrapping my arms around his neck kissing him, "Yes." I said kissing him again.
The tables erupted in cheers all around us. I smiled laughing as Eli kissed me again. I nestled my head into his shoulder holding him close to me.
"Yes a thousand times yes!" I laughed. Eli picked me up in his arms kissing me again.
I don't remember much from dinner. I do remember looking at my hand a lot. And smiling. And kissing Eli. And being overall happy.
Eli was perfect. He was so sweet and kind and caring. He helped me when I didn't want help. He was there fighting for me the entire time. He was so wonderful and I felt so blessed to have him in my life. I looked at him then and knew. Everything was going to be okay. We would get married and live a long dull life. I would finally have the boring happily ever after I so desperately wanted. No more hospital visits or crazy mood swings. No more tumor. No more Kyle. Just Eli and me.
"I love you." I smiled kissing him again.
"I love you." Eli said.
And in that moment I felt at peace.
