Chapter 6

August 29th 2020 - 4 Days before Buddy and Felix become Superpets

Buddy woke up and yawned, stretching as far as he could.

"You're calm today." Felix said, rubbing his eyes.

"We have a few days to kill before we actually have to do anything." Buddy replied.

"Maybe we should try breaking into the HQ. For old times' sake." Felix suggested.

"Why not?" Buddy said, smirking. They raced off down the stairs of the corner shop and out onto the street. They ran underground and down the corridors  until the reached the elevator.

"Do you wanna be risky or safe?" Felix asked.

"Risky, as always." Buddy winked. The pair climbed into the elevator and pressed BR.

They arrived at the briefing room and climbed into a vent that overlooked the entire room.

Soon, pets started piling into the room and eventually Wilkins appeared at the podium.

"Settle down!" He yelled in a more rough tone than the pair were used to. "Today is a very sad day for all of us. We have 2 superpets leaving us."

There came an audible murmur from the crowd.

"Cassidy and Andrew, please come up here." Wilkins said, looking a little sad at something that wasn't that serious.

"That's the rabbit we saw yesterday." Buddy said, pointing towards Cassidy.

"I've worked here for as long as I can remember. I came from one of the first facilities that tested the JX-30 serum, therefore I am one of the first superpets. I don't want to leave, but unfortunately mine and Andrew's health says otherwise." Cassidy said. She then rambled on about something else about how great she was and how she was going to miss the job.

"Jesus christ, how much more can she say?" Felix whispered.

"I know right." Buddy said, looking at the performance.

"Now because 2 have left, that means we need to recruit 2 new members. We've been doing some research looking for the perfect pets and we found these two." Wilkins said, clicking a button on his remote. Suddenly, a CCTV feed came up and it showed a video of none other than Buddy and Felix walking down the street.

"Now, who wants to set this up?" Wilkins asked.

"No way!" One voice yelled.

"I would, but not for them." Another voice yelled.

"They look untrustworthy!" A third voice yelled.

"They're too weak and immature." Another yelled.

"Seriously? No-one wants to help these guys get a better future?" Wilkins asked.

"No." The majority of the crowd shouted.

"Alrighty then. I guess we'll have to find a different pair of pets to fit the job." Wilkins said.

"No." Buddy said as he was on the verge of tears.

"Everybody hated us?" Felix said as the group of pets started dispersing. All but one. "Who's that?"

"I-I-I'll do it, sir." A voice said.

"Really?" Wilkins asked.

"Yes sir." The voice replied.

"Top man. Put the serum here." Wilkins said, giving him a map.

"Thanks sir." The voice said. As he turned around to leave, Buddy saw that he was in fact Rex.

"I knew it!" Buddy cheered. The pair turned around and went out the vent and followed behind Rex as he slipped into the elevator. The pair clambered into the elevator next to his as they headed to where he was going. He got out just before they did so they could follow him at a safe distance.

"Everyone's gonna hate me for this." Rex muttered to himself as he exited the HQ. The pair followed him out and started walking to where he was going. Felix accidentally stepped on a twig and it snapped. Rex turned and saw them.

"Oh, hello." He said, a little nervous.

"Hi.." Buddy said, nervously.

"What brings you to these woods?" Rex asked.

"Well, you know. We live right by them and we haven't explored them yet so we're doing it today." Felix lied.

"Uhmm, okay. Nice meeting you." Rex said, turning to walk away.

"Wait." Buddy said impatiently. Rex's ears perked. "I need to know something."

"What would that be?" Rex asked.

"Do you believe in time travel?" Buddy asked. Felix kicked him.

"Don't you dare." He whispered in his ear.

"I want to." Rex replied. "Why?"

"Well.. We kind of.. umm.. Well.." Buddy began.

"What is it?" Rex asked.

"We come from the future and we got sent back here by accident and now we don't know what to do so could you help us?" Buddy said as quickly as possible.

"Really?" Rex asked.

"Yes." Buddy replied.

"Do you know me in the future? Does anything bad happen? Does anyone die? Do I die?" Rex asked.

"Yes, yes, no and no." Buddy reassured him.

"What happens?" Rex asked nervously.

"Well, you get captured by a guy called Flint that steals your powers and then we come along and lose our powers too then we defeat him and he gets locked up. Then we move to London and we invite you to a party that goes horrifically wrong then loads of other stuff happens." Buddy said.

"Don't forget that you could mess everything up." Felix whispered to Buddy.

"Who's Flint?" Rex asked.

"I'll let you find out." Buddy replied.

"I know how I can help, but it's going to take a bit of work." Rex said.
