Chapter 9

The pair went to the entrance that they were at before. Felix tried the door, it was locked.

"They must know that we're getting in." He said.

"Or they just lock this door sometimes." Buddy said.

"I highly doubt that." Felix replied.

"We need to get back in somehow." Buddy said.

"We should try the Drains." Felix suggested. The pair flew off into the distance and started looking for a drain. Suddenly, Buddy started falling.

"I can't fly!" He yelled.

"What?" Felix asked. Soon enough, he too started to fall. Luckily, they landed in the Park's pond. They quickly got out.

"What was that?" Buddy asked, shivering.

"I don't know." Felix said. He tried to fly again but failed to do so. "I think we've lost our powers."

"How is that possible?" Buddy asked.

"You talked to Rex, I told you that it would screw stuff up but did you listen? No." Felix spat. 

"How did I mess it up by talking to him?" Buddy demanded.

"You stopped him from putting the JX-30 serum in the lab, and I bet he's been captured meaning that he didn't put it there and we must've gone to the lab and didn't find anything so we didn't get powers and nothing happened and Flint's gonna win and so are all the other villains we stopped!" Felix yelled.

"I'm... sorry I didn't know that would happen." Buddy replied with remorse.

"Of course you did! You caused the butterfly effect!" Felix said.

"I know how we can fix it." Buddy said.

"How?" Felix demanded.

"We steal two test tubes of the serum and put it there ourselves. Then we can also use the storm to get out of there." Buddy replied.

"Ok and who has the test tubes?" Felix asked.

"Flint." Buddy said. Felix sighed.

"Fine." He said.

The pair sneaked to where Flint's lab was and entered. They followed the many halls until they finally got to the main part. They saw the cages where they were once held... or soon to be held. They went over to Rex's cage and saw him lying down in there wit his paw above his eye.

"Do you have the serum?" Buddy asked.

"He took it from me." Rex said, his voice weak and blood dripping from where his paw was held. "You were right and wrong at the same time. Yes I did get captured, but I'm going to die."

"You're not going to die." Felix said. "He won't let you."

"Just get out of here. Don't bother saving me." Rex said, wiping his face.

"We can't leave him here." Buddy said.

"Just go!" Rex yelled. Felix pulled Buddy away.

"Remember what I said about screwing things up." He said.

"Right, so he's going to die if we do anything and saving him will screw stuff up." Buddy replied.

"Was he dead when we got captured?" Felix asked.

"No." Buddy replied.

"Then he won't die." Felix said.

They continued down the hall until they found the shelf where all the different chemicals and machine parts were stored. They picked up 4 test tubes of the JX-30 serum and turned to leave.

"Being bad is really fun." Flint said.

"if you capture us now, you won't have the fun of capturing us later." Buddy said.

"Yeah, just give us like 2 days then we'll be back." Felix agreed.

"Fine. If you aren't here in 2 days exactly, I'll come and find you." Flint spat. The pair ran as fast as they could out of the lab. As they were doing so they heard something. 

"You were right about the bodyguards." Flint said over the intercom.

The pair exited the building and headed back to base. It was already night and the pair decided to sleep.
