Chapter 11

September 1st, 7PM - 3 Hours before the Storm

"Well this is it." Felix said, setting up the device.

"Yeah." Buddy said over a radio. He was on the roof setting up the lightning rod. "The rod's ready."

"Good, I've got the computer working." Felix replied. In the distance, Buddy saw something coming up the hill towards him. It was Flint. He looked pissed.

"I've come to capture you." Flint said. He clicked his fingers and his bodyguards appeared. "Technically I've only given you 1 day and 19 hours so I'm not gonna capture you until.. say 10PM?" Flint offered.

"6 Hours." Buddy said.

"5 and a Half." Flint bargained.

"None. I want them now." One of the bodyguards growled.

"I told you, I wanted to have fun." Flint hissed to his bodyguard.

"How about when the first lightning bolt strikes." Buddy suggested.

"What lightning bolt?" Flint asked. Suddenly, rain started to fall onto the trees, then the ground below them. A huge shock of lightning darted across the sky in the distance.

"That lightning." Buddy said.

"How could you know?" Flint asked.

"I'm a time traveller." Buddy said with pride as he rushed inside the building. He quickly flipped the breaker for the elevator off as he slid down the ladder and closed the hatch.

"What took you so long?" Felix asked.

"We've got trouble." Buddy replied.

"What kind?" Felix asked.

"Flint. He's going to wait until the first light-" Buddy began. There came a huge bang as the bodyguards began pounding on the hatch.

"I've changed my mind. I want you now." Flint said from the other side of the door.

"I know of someone else you can capture in the meantime!" Buddy shouted.

"Who?" Flint asked.

"Try this address." Buddy said, sliding a piece of paper under the door. The banging stopped.

"What did you give him?" Felix asked.

"The address of the corner shop." Buddy replied.

9:50PM, 10 minutes before the Storm

The pair waited ages for the lightning bolt to strike so when the computer came up with the "Lightning Storm Imminent" warning, they jumped into action. Buddy prepared the machine and Felix was typing the date into the computer.

Destination: 23/10/2022

Current Date: 01/09/2020

"That should be it." Felix said.

"You know, it was fun here even if we did screw up the timeline for a bit." Felix said.

"What if we don't get our powers back?" Buddy asked.

"We will. If we leave the stuff here, then we'll stumble across it and everything will be fine." Felix reassured him.

The pair waited eagerly for the lightning until there came a bashing at the door.

"You lied!" Flint yelled as the door was burst open.

"Superpets always lie." Buddy said, hurling a wrench in his direction. He was hit and flew out of the room. His bodyguards followed him. Just then a blood curdling crash came from above them. A lightning bolt cascaded down from the sky and hit the lightning rod which in turn exploded the fuse box and caused the machine to overload and explode, causing a massive pink light. The world went black.

BANG! Went the thunder.

"Gah!" Past Buddy yelped as he was awoken from his sleep. He crept out of the bedroom and up to the dirty window as he saw helicopters, vans, trucks and sirens surround where the explosion had taken place. "Oh my god."
