Avery's POV
I slowly back away, Luke's arm falling off my shoulder. Tears start to form in my eyes as I make my over to the couch to sit down, my mind blank of all thoughts
"What? No. No, no, no. That's impossible," I hear Reggie say as Luke sits down next to me, wrapping his arm around my shoulder, pulling me against his chest as I try to process what I just heard. "After we floated out of the ambulance, all we did was go into that weird dark room where Alex cried."
"Well... I don't think... I think we were all pretty upset," Alex says in a high-pitched girl voice.
"But that was only for like an hour," Luke says. His chest vibrating against my back as he speaks.
I stand up, stomping over to where the girl is standing. I open my mouth and bring my hand up ready to yell at her but nothing comes out except a sob. Luke runs over to me and brings me into a hug as I cry.
"Wait. So- so, it has been twenty-five years," Alex stutters. "I have been crying for twenty-five years? How is that possible?"
"You're a very emotional person," Reggie says, still standing exactly where he's been this entire time.
"I am not," Alex says, his voice sounding like he's about to start crying again.
"I thought you were afraid to come out here," a boy said, coming up behind us. Even though he can walk through us, we all clear away from him. "You talking to your ghost friend? How does he look? Is he hideous?" He asks, crossing his arms over his chest.
I look towards Alex and he stares at me with a straight face. "He can see you," he says to me and I immediately flip him off.
"No, he can't," the girl says, looking at us. "Uh, what do you want?" She asks turning back to the little boy.
"A normal sister, for starters," he says. "Stop being weird and come eat." And with that, he leaves.
The girl look around at all of us, a confused expression on her face. "He couldn't see you."
"Yeah, I mean, that's usually how ghosts work," Alex says, stuffing his hands into his jacket pockets.
"Look, I'm very sorry for what happened to you, but this isn't your studio. You have to leave." And with that, she turns, ready to leave.
"But, wait," Luke says, walking towards her, leaving me alone. "We didn't get your name."
"It's Julie," she says rather harshly.
Luke chuckled. "Cool. I-I'm Luke," he says, stepping forward but stopping when she holds the cross up again. "by the way. And this is..." Luke says, allowing us to introduce ourselves.
Reggie introduces himself first. "Reggie. I'm Reggie, hey."
"Alex," he says. "How's it going?"
I sniff and wipe the tears off my cheeks with the back of my hand. "I'm Avery."
