Julie's pov

As the bell rings, Flynn and I run toward the music room, pushing people out of our way. When we get there, we bend over and catch our breath.

Once we catch our breath, we stand up straight and walk toward Mrs. Harrison. "Mrs. Harrison, Julie played piano again this morning," Flynn says quickly, still catching her breath.

"Well, that's amazing. Congratulations, Julie," she says, a giant smile on her face.

I nod quickly and put my hands together in front of me. "So, I was wondering if I could have my spot back in the music program."

She sighs softly before speaking again. "Believe me, I think it's wonderful you sang again." I close my eyes and breath out a shaky breath, knowing her answer. "I've prayed for this moment for almost a year. But it's too late," she says as she puts sheets of music around the room.

"What if you hear her play?" Flynn begs. "You know she's amazing."

"It wouldn't matter, Flynn." She shrugs. "A new student starts tomorrow. There's only-"

"So many spots, and if I don't participate, I'm out. I know," I said finishing her sentence while nodding softly, understanding why she was saying this.

"I did everything I could to keep you this year," she says, walking toward us. "But Principal Lessa was very clear that yesterday was your last chance. You'll have to reapply next semester."

We all sigh as I duck my head, rubbing my tongue against my teeth.

"I truly am sorry," she says before students start walking into the classroom.

I feel tears start to form in my eyes before Flynn wraps her arm around my shoulder, walking us out of the room.

As I turn the corner to our house, I see the "For Sale" sign standing perfectly in front of our house. I walk toward it and kick it, sending it swaying back and forth before opening the door and walking inside.

I drop my backpack on the bench by the front door and walk toward the kitchen to get a glass of water. "Hi, Mija," I hear my dad say from the kitchen table.

"Hey, Papi," I say as I turn toward him and open the cupboard where the glasses are, accidentally hitting the side of my head with the corner of the cupboard door. We both laugh softly as I fill my glass with water from the tap. "I'm gonna go call Flynn," I say as I pass him, giving him a small kiss on his head.

When I open the door to my room, I see the four ghosts from the garage wandering around my room.. Reggie looks like he's trying to make snow angels on my bed, Luke is on a stool looking at my dream box, Alex is trying to pick up a photo of my mom, and Avery is standing beside Alex looking at my small record collection.

"What are you doing in my room?" I yell at them. All of their heads turn toward me except for Avery.

"We were looking for the kitchen?" Luke says in a high-pitched voice.
